DIY: Holly Golightly Sleep Costume

One of my favorite movies of all time is Breakfast at Tiffany's and while many of us are familiar with Holly Golightly's aka Audrey Hepburn's iconic little black dress with pearls look, I thought I'd switch it up and get creative. I always adored her sleep look which consists of an oversized men's shirt and a gorgeous Tiffany blue sleep mask which I thought I'd show you how to create from scratch! Keep in mind: I've never made my own sleep mask before so this was new territory for me but I enjoyed the challenge and found that it was much easier than I thought it would be! Of course you always could just buy a dupe from Etsy or some other expensive place but hey, it's just so much more fun making it and works perfectly if it's a last minute costume! Here's how I did it:

Step 1 - Use a sleeping mask template (which you can easily find online, here's the one that I used!) and print it and make sure that it covers your eyes comfortably and is a good fit for your face. Next, pin the template to the felt paper (you can also use satin or other fabrics but if you're a beginner, felt fabric works best!) and simply cut around the template.

For the eyes, I couldn't find any templates online to help me so I studied Holly's mask from pictures and drew this shape and placed it on the mask in order to make sure that it would be a good size before placing it on the felt paper and cutting around it as well.

Step 2 - Next, pin the eyelid shapes onto the mask and take your gold glitter glue and draw the eyebrows. I wanted to make it as authentic as possible so once again I studied Holly's mask pictures and slowly drew thin, round eyebrows. If you want, you can practice the shape on paper before applying it on felt fabric.

Step 3 - Now it's time to glue the eyelids with a hot glue gun. On Holly's mask, the eyelids are actually more 3-D looking and rounded so I recommend slightly bringing the ends closer to each other in order to make it look like a realistic eyelid. Did I describe that right? Oh well, just take a look at the photos below and you'll see what I mean haha.

Step 4 - Next, using the gold glitter glue once again, draw a thick line across the bottom of the eyelids. In order to make it as straight as possible, I did two thin lines.

Step 5 - Lastly, with the gold sequin trim, use the hot glue gun to place it around the outline of the mask. I bought about 2 yards of sequin trim and glued the leftover piece to the back of the mask in order to create the headband.

Finish off the look with a white oversized button down shirt, some winged eyeliner and thick lashes (in the scene where Holly opens the door, you can see how AMAZING her makeup is even though she just woke up haha), and add some volume to the top of your hair and style it into a half-up/half-down style. Here's a close up shot of her beauty look.

That's it, you're done! A quick and easy Halloween costume which will make you the most classiest person at the party!

I hoped you gals enjoyed this post! Any other DIY ideas? Comment below!
