Tips to Shop The Zara Sale Like a Pro | 1 comment:

If there's one shop that I'm really obsessed with (and willing to drive to another country for) it's Zara. If you've been following me on Instagram, you might've noticed on Stories that I took a road trip a few days ago to Canada just to go to Zara! Sadly, Rochester or even upstate NY doesn't have one so it's either online or driving to a ridiculously far place. I was shocked to find out that Canada had started the Zara summer sale early and I found myself searching through rack after rack along with all the other Zara-holics and unfortunately coming out with only 2 things. Yet the sale has officially launched online and in stores for us Americans so I thought I'd share my best tips to take advantage!

They Constantly Restock & Add New Items

Notice some sizes missing from your favorite items? Or that the site seems kinda empty compared to last year's summer sale? Both online and in stores, throughout the upcoming weeks Zara will restock a lot of their sale items or even mark down new stuff that wasn't there before! That's why I highly recommend checking the site weekly until the sale is over because you never know what they're going to put up so don't lose hope if some sizes aren't there.

Sale Starts At 10-20% Off

My cousin actually works at Zara and told me that they specifically start the sale at 10-20% off and in the upcoming weeks will mark everything down even lower. The problem is many items sell out quickly (especially online) so you have to make the decision to either buy it for a small discount or risk waiting a few weeks and possibly getting it for a better deal.

Not Every Item Will Be Marked Down In The Future

Something that annoys me about this sale is that not every item will be marked down in the future. For example, jackets and coats will most likely stay at 20% off the next couple of weeks while tops and skirts typically get marked down up to 40-50% off. Keep this in mind when you're thinking about how badly you want to buy something haha. Some things are just worth buying right now even if it is a small discount!

You Can Return Sale Items

Zara sizes can be very inconsistent and when you're shopping the sale online, it's nice to know that you're free to return any items that don't work out and can get a full refund for it. Nothing is final sale!

The Sale Doesn't Include The New Collection

Personally I wish the Zara summer sale included the small amount of the fall/winter collection they have in stores/online already but unfortunately it doesn't. The sale only includes spring/summer items  as well as a few pieces that might've been left over from last winter.

Hope these tips helped! Happy shopping,

Figure Flattering Swimsuits | No comments:

With the weather in the 90's, it's officially swimsuit season! I personally hate buying new swimsuits since once you find THE ONE you just never want to wear anything ever again! But sadly myn has gotten ridiculously old so I'm in the market for a new swimsuit: one that's figure-flattering yet stylish which can be hard to find and takes a lot of trial and error. Some of my favorites are one shoulder bikini tops, off the shoulder with ruffles (especially that pink one which you can totally wear as a top if you just wore a denim skirt with it!), and of course one piece swimsuits which hides all of those imperfections yet the strategically placed cut-outs makes it a hundred times more flattering. Oh and did I mention that black swimsuit with the bow in the back? So gorgeous and needs to be in my closet ASAP.

What swimsuit trends are you loving right now? Any tips for figure flattering swimsuits?

Nioxin System 5 Hair Thinning Kit Review: Week 1 | No comments:

Earlier this week on Instagram Stories, I mentioned trying out the Nioxin System 5 Hair Thinning Kit and thought it would be a good idea to show the results on a weekly basis. In my Why You Need to Give Your Hair a Break post, I talked about my damaged hair and how it's beginning to thin at the crown and while giving up heat has done wonders, it was time to kick it up a notch. I did some research and read some amazing reviews about Nioxin products and thought I should give their hair thinning kits a try. Nioxin claims to make your hair thicker, denser, healthier, and prevent hair fall out in 30 days. The kits are available at Ulta and currently on sale for $33 and coupons qualify so make sure to download the Ulta app for some extra savings.

Nioxin products come in "systems" which depends on what your hair type is and the level of thinning you're experiencing. I went with System 5 which is for medium to coarse hair, chemically treated (unfortunately these products do contain sulfates despite saying this), and normal to thinning hair. Below you can see the different systems that are available for your hair type which makes it a more effective brand in my opinion since they realize that not all hair types and thinning is the same.

Each kit comes with Cleanser Shampoo (10.1 oz), Scalp Therapy Conditioner (5.1 oz), and Scalp Treatment (3.4 oz). While I originally wanted to just buy the Scalp Treatment, the smallest size is $25 so I thought it was a great deal to get the shampoo and conditioner as well and many reviews mentioned that using these three products together was much more effective.

Now it's only been one week since I've been using these products so there wasn't much as far as thickness goes. Reviews say to use the products everyday but I don't wash my hair on an everyday basis and instead stick to 2-3x times a week so that's how often I used the shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo has a light peppermint smell and foamed nicely and really made my hair feel clean while the conditioner was moisturizing yet didn't weigh down my roots. I was pleasantly SHOCKED by the shampoo and conditioner since I didn't LOSE ONE STRAND OF HAIR in the shower while washing it out. Normally I have clumps come out in the shower and then when I'm combing it I have even more hair fall out which was alarming. This result has never happened with any other products that I've used so it's a big difference for me.

Now for the scalp treatment, you simply spray it on your scalp after washing your hair and when it's still damp. On the days that I didn't wash my hair, I still used this product everyday and simply made my hair wet with a spray bottle. This product also smells like peppermint but it's still light and easily fades away in seconds. Since it's a leave-in product, I was afraid that it was going to make my crown sticky and have some sort of residue but I was surprised to find that it simply dries into your hair, doesn't leave any stickiness, and you can still style it the same way that you always do. Some of the side effects are a slight tingling feeling which I liked since at least I know that it's working as well as some slight redness near my temples.

Overall, I haven't seen any results other than my baby hairs growing at a faster rate (they started to grow once I stopped using heat so I'm not sure if it's the lack of heat or these products). But my hair does feel much more cleaner compared to other products I use and feels a lot fuller. A lot of the reviews that I said that people started seeing results in 2 weeks so hopefully by next week we'll see a difference.

How I Beat The Post-College Blues | No comments:

source: Domaine Home

I have a confession to make: I've been going through the post-college blues and while I casually mentioned it on one of my Instagram photos (this one to be exact), I actually didn't go into detail about it cause I just assumed it would go away quickly. Ha! Good one, Ruya. When you're a sensitive person and emotional person like I am (on the Myers-Briggs scale, I'm an INFJ!), you tend to feel things on a deeper level. That old saying is true: it's a blessing and a curse to feel everything so deeply. Of course, I'm going to be sad that college is over. It's a normal reaction cause I'm heading into the next phase of my life so it only makes sense to feel emotional about it. So why did I feel more sad than other people?

Honestly, finishing college made me feel like, well...old all of a sudden. It made me feel lost because school was the only thing that I ever have known. On top of it, I went to college for an extra year because I switched my major so I became extra-attached to college compared to most people. The irony is that I complained about college a lot and assumed that I would have this big huge moment of relief when it was all over. Yet I took my last final and remembered feeling no relief whatsoever. There was no weight off my shoulders, there was no feeling of accomplishment. It was strange, to say the least. I can honestly say the only day during these past couple of weeks that I felt some sort of happiness and pride was during my graduation yet that feeling quickly faded away once it was all over and I realized I had nothing else to look forward to. I remember waking up the day after graduation and thinking to myself "Well, now what?".

Ever since then, my life has turned into a lifeless routine where I wake up, go to the gym, come back and spend the rest of the day researching and applying to jobs out of state (with no luck!), and then have dinner, and binge-watch 80's/90's shows (Golden Girls and Designing Women is everything) until I go to sleep. I came to the realization that I felt so special being a "college kid" and that life was so much easier back then because you didn't have to deal with the real world just yet. And then when you're finally in the real world, you realize that you're just like everyone else and things are just so...dull. On top of it, all my life I've dreamed of having the opportunity to move out of Rochester and live someplace warmer and now that it's finally here: no place wants to hire me. Talk about a reality check! I have a new level of appreciation for people that are job-hunting. It's rough and college really doesn't teach you anything much about getting a job out of state. I felt like I let myself down because I assumed I would've gotten a job by now and at least would've started apartment-hunting. But once again, I've learned in life that nothing ever goes the way that you imagined it will.

Then one day I found myself walking around in the quiet aisles of Target (my happy place) in the afternoon where the only people there at that time is me and stay at home moms/dads. I ended up walking by the office supply section and staring at those darn cute supplies that only Target would sell and wishing I could buy something for my nonexistent cubicle. One minute I was looking at Eiffel Tower scissors and then the next minute I was holding back tears and feeling more alone and confused than ever.

Then I had a moment of clarity that I haven't felt in a long time. I was doing everything in my power to achieve my goals and the rest is up to time. There's a certain sense of peace that took hold of me after I realized this and I've been repeating it to myself everyday ever since. Not everything is in my control and I'm wasting my life by living for the next achievement. I realized that I'm in another period of transformation and this is all temporary. I think as human beings we feel so stuck in our current situations that we think that we're going to stay in that same situation forever. We tend to forget that life can change so quickly.  So what did I do? I still kept applying for jobs but I also started enjoying my free time more. It occurred to me that this would probably be one of the few times in my life where I would have so much time for myself without any serious commitments. I started hanging out with friends more and started talking about things other than finding a job, I picked up a hobby that's helping me to make money (I'll talk more about that in an upcoming post!), I started exploring my city more, and most of all just doing things that I normally wouldn't have time for if I was in school or at work. It's funny how things change once you change your perspective.

So the end of college doesn't mean that it's the end of life. It's just a transition and what's important is to focus on all the possibilities that the future can bring. Spend all of your time and energy focusing on the good and good will come right back. Most importantly, I like to remind myself (and others!) that I haven't even scratched the surface yet of what I can really accomplish in life. There's so many more adventures that are coming up

A Black & White Summer | No comments:

Top: Topshop (runs small, size up!) // Skirt: Abercrombie // Shoes: J. Crew Factory (on sale for $30!) // Sunglasses: Dior "Origins" // Bag: Chanel, vintage // Lipstick: Bobbi Brown "Rich Nude" Art Stick

After weeks and weeks of rain, it officially feels like summer here in Rochester. I wish it could be like this all year round! My friend and I decided to grab some brunch at the Owl House over the weekend and sat on the patio (a must if you live in Rochester) and enjoyed the nice weather while wearing matching sunglasses and having so many people compliment our outfits haha! I've been dying to wear this lace top that I got from Topshop back during my Toronto trip in May and it's so comfortable to wear since unlike other off the shoulder tops, it doesn't move up and down since it has two thin straps. It's technically a crop top so I recommend wearing something high waisted like this white denim skirt which has become my summer essential and goes with everything! Plus I love the destroyed hem and the amount of stretch it has (comes in handy after brunch haha). And can we just talk about this teal wall?! Teal is my favorite color and it just pops against the black and white outfit and makes this whole post look so much more summery. I'm sure I'll be coming back and taking photos here more often!

How's everyone's summer going? I'd love to know!

Givenchy Noir Interdit Mascara Voxbox | No comments:

(Received this product complimentary from Influenster. All opinions are mine alone.)

It's been a while since Influenster sent me something (feel free to go to the search bar and type in Influenster to see all the amazing products they've sent me over the years!) and I was surprised to find the Givenchy voxbox in front of my door yesterday. If you want to receive voxboxes and be able to test out beauty and other types of products, feel free to sign up for Influenster and connect your Facebook account.

The voxbox contained the new Givenchy Noir Interdit mascara which has a unique 90 degree wand (seriously it's bendable and it's awesome!) which makes it more comfortable to hold the wand and apply mascara to those tricky corners. In case you're wondering, the wand is actually a thick plastic comb (instead of it being a brush like other mascaras) and gives some nice length to lashes which I already have but doesn't give much volume which is what I'm looking for. There is also the clumping problem if you apply more than two coats and the smell. One of the reasons why I tend to avoid the Givenchy line is because all of the products smell like roses. While some people love that smell, it personally gives me a migraine and strangely enough, even the mascara smells like it.

Overall, if the smell of roses doesn't bother you and you don't get migraines easily (lucky!) and you're looking for a mascara that's going to help make your lashes look longer and don't care much about volume then make sure to try this! The 90 degree wand alone makes a huge difference and is so much more comfortable to use compared to other wands.

Thanks for reading and check out some other Givenchy mascaras below if you're in the market for something new!

Why You Need To Give Your Hair A Break | No comments:

I'm the kind of girl who loves to switch up her hair. I've been dying my hair a lighter color ever since I was 15 (fun fact: my natural hair color is a super dark brown!) and on top of it, I love straight and sleek hair so you can imagine how much damage I've accumulated over the years. During the summer, I always like to take a hair break and just completely stay away from the heat and hair dye, at least for a couple of weeks. I always choose to do this during the summer since I'm not going anywhere special on an everyday basis where I need to look presentable (like school or an internship) and no one is going to mind that I have ridiculously dark roots growing in. While I know taking a hair break and avoiding products, dye, and heat is a difficult task and not realistic for everyone, I think doing this every once in a while can make a huge difference! Here's why:

Hair Growth

While I never had problems growing my hair (in fact it grows a little too fast which is a pain when that means you have to go to the salon more often!), the hairs on the top of my head look so thin and my biggest fear is that one day I'll have a bald spot! I had a feeling all that constant pulling from blow drying my hair straight was causing it and now that I've stopped using heat on an everyday basis, I've noticed after a month that my little baby hairs were growing! Like a lot. I was shocked since they always seem to be at the same length and this is the first time in years that I've seen a difference at the crown.

Less Product Build-Up

Since the only kinds of products that I'm using during this period is deep conditioners and hair masks like It's a 10 Miracle Deep Conditioner to repair damage, product build-up significantly decreases which means a healthier scalp that can breath and grow better. While I do use a clarifying shampoo like R+Co Oblivion once in a while (since I use sulfate-free shampoos like L'Oreal Sulfate Free Moisture Shampoo on a regular basis which can cause build up), during this period I find that I don't even need that!

I knew my hair was in the process of healing when I noticed that I had less split ends (despite being three months since I've gotten a trim), the natural curls in my hair seemed fuller, and most importantly there was a slight shine to it when usually my hair is dull and lifeless when it's not straight and filled with products.

One Less Thing To Worry About

The number one reason why you should take a break is because life seems to get so much more simpler when you have one less thing to worry about in the mornings. Sure, it sucks not being able to use heat and having roots coming in. I'm used to having straight hair all the time so I don't feel like myself without it! Yet I can't deny the fact that it also feels liberating to just let my hair grow and do it's thing instead of damaging it 24/7 and wondering how bad my hair will look in a couple of months or years.

Hope this convinces you to take a break with your hair! Even if you can't go cold turkey, at least decrease the amount of days you use heat on your hair and it might make a difference!

White Jeans That You Need For This Summer | 1 comment:

Top: c/o Tobi (it's actually a dress!) // Jeans: Topshop // Shoes: DSW // Bag: Chanel, vintage // Sunglasses: Dior "Origins"

I know, I've been slacking lately with the blog posts! Lately I've just been really focusing on researching and applying for jobs and the process is so difficult since I'm looking for something out of state. Fingers crossed, I'll hear something soon! Plus when you no longer have to go to school and you're just sitting at home all the time, there's really not much going on in the fashion department other than pajamas and sweats haha. But I finally got dressed up yesterday and went out for dinner and just had to talk about these white embroidery jeans. I bought these way back when I went to Toronto in April (at the Topshop section at Hudson's Bay) and they come in petite and are so comfortable and stretchy. I love how the embroidery makes it look so much more expensive than it is and it's probably one of the most unique pieces in my wardrobe. As for the top, Tobi was kind enough to send it to me and it's actually a dress but I couldn't find a black top to go with this outfit so instead I tucked and pinned this dress and turned it into a top haha. I'll be sure to wear it as a dress soon so you gals can see what it looks like as a dress.
