Flare Sleeve Sweater

Top: Abercrombie (on sale for $34!) // Jeans: J. Crew // Bag: BCBG, sold out // Shoes: BCBG, sold out

The snow's finally melted away and I can start wearing my favorite spring pieces that have been collecting dust in my closet such as this...wait for it...ABERCROMBIE SWEATER?! Yup, for the past couple of months I've been watching Abercrombie and it's rebranding process and I'm actually loving their new spring collection. Gone are the days of moose logos and replaced with beautiful, clean, and simple designs that will enhance your wardrobe. And no I'm not getting sponsored to say this! haha. While I have many off the shoulder and flare tops in my closet, this blue one's unique since it's made out of a lightweight material that's perfect for spring days and there's no elastic around the neckline so it comfortably sits on your shoulders and doesn't move up and down all day (which annoys the hell out of me!). I'm thinking about getting the cream version too just because I love it so much and it's on sale for $34 now!

I also pulled out some white jeans that I bought at J. Crew which everyone needs in their closet for warmer weather and these shoes and bag? I mentioned over on my Instagram that I got them both for 70% off since the BCBG outlet at Niagara Falls is closing! I'm so sad since that was the only reason why I drove all the way out there every couple of months but what can ya do. It's sad seeing the retail industry changing so much.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! I'll be studying and doing homework, ugh.

Tips For Growing Your Brows

Can you believe that I haven't done my eyebrows since December? Yup, it's almost going to be 4 months since I decided that I wanted my eyebrows to look better and decided to completely ignore tweezing, threading, and waxing for a better shape. Before, I would never really pay attention to my eyebrows since I'm Turkish and naturally have thick eyebrows and in Turkish culture, for centuries it's considered a sign of beauty to have full eyebrows so growing up my Mom would never let me touch them (thanks Mom!). Yet lately, I've been feeling unsatisfied with my brows so I decided to let them grow out and boy is it the most liberating feeling ever! It's just one less thing to worry about everyday and I couldn't be happier with the way they're turning out. I'm actually going to give myself another month before I get them done but in the meantime I thought I'd share my best tricks for growing them and how to make them look more groomed so you can actually go out in public haha. Here they are:

Stick To Your Brow Routine

Just because you're growing out your brows doesn't mean you should get lazy! It's important to stick to your usual brow routine in order to make your brows look polished. Trust me, growth doesn't look as bad if the brows are filled in nicely. My usual brow routine consists of brow powder in a few shades lighter than my natural brows and a spoolie so I can blend out the color and not make it look so harsh. My holy grail is Anastasia's Brow Powder Duo in Taupe!

Never Remove The "Body" Of The Brow

The number one rule to growing out your brows is to keep the plucking to a minimum. In the past four months, I've only plucked only 4-5 stray hairs! What do I mean by stray? Random brow hairs that grow in places that are far away from your actual eyebrow (I like to call this the "body"). Any hair that's very close to your eyebrow shouldn't be plucked and should be taken care of by a professional when you feel that your'e done growing them and it's time to get them done. If you're not sure if it's a stray brow hair or not, then just leave it! It's better safe than to be sorry.

Clear Brow Gel Is Everything

Before making the big decision to let my eyebrows grow, I never used brow gel. I just never saw the point since my eyebrows always seemed to stay in place but when you're growing them and they're going in a million directions? It's totally necessary! My personal favorite is Benefit's Ready, Set, Brow! which is a clear gel that isn't sticky and doesn't leave your brows crunchy or stiff when it dries but instead feels soft and natural. The best part is that your brow hairs STAY in place throughout the day. I don't know what I would do without this stuff.

Almond Oil

An old Turkish trick that my Mom taught me is to apply some almond oil onto your brows which is enriched with vitamin E on a regular basis which helps your brows grow thicker and fuller and did I mention faster? Perfect if you over plucked or waxed too much and need to have nice brows ASAP. I usually put it on at night right before I go to bed since it takes a while for it to absorb into the skin.

Use Accessories to "Hide" Your Brows

If it feels as if you can't control the way your brows are going and just want to hide them then use accessories such as baseball hats (which we all know how much I love plus they're super trendy right now!) or if you normally wear contacts than switch to glasses. This way, the focus will be taken off your brows and people will be distracted by the accessories instead.

Hide Growth With Pencil Highlighter

A good way to mask all the tiny hairs that are appearing on your brow bone is to put some highlighter on it. This way the light reflects the highlighter instead of the tiny hairs and you look more groomed and polished. Lately I've been using European Wax Center's Oh My Brow! which comes in a pencil form which I recommend since it goes on a bit thicker rather than using powder highlighter which won't mask brow hairs as easily.

Hope you guys enjoyed this post and good luck with your brow journeys! I know it can be difficult but the results are going to be worth it and you won't regret!

Things to Do If You Don't Have Time For The Gym

We all have busy weeks when we can't make it to the gym cause there's just too many things to do on our list and the GUILT. Ugh, that's the worst. Or maybe the gym isn't your thing and you just want to save some money before signing up for a contract and having to commit to it. Whatever the problem is, I thought it was time that I made a post about other things that you can do aside from going to the gym that can help you stay on track and achieve your fitness goals. Here's my advice:

Keep Your Diet As Clean As Possible
I once read that weight loss is 70% dieting and 30% exercise and I think that's completely true. Whenever I can't make it to the gym but still keep up with clean eating, my body doesn't show that I'm not going to the gym which makes me feel a lot better. I usually increase my water intake around this time, eat more fruits/vegetables, avoid anything processed, and include more fiber in my diet which helps keep my stomach flat!

Burn Calories In "Little" Ways
Getting some exercise doesn't always mean spending an hour at the gym, you can burn calories by doing little things like walking your dog, taking the stairs (I know we've heard this one a million times but hey it's always an option), or even grabbing a basket at the grocery store and having to carry heavy groceries in that thing can be a good arm workout.

Buy a Resistance Band
Earlier this week I purchased a resistance band and it's one of the best things I've ever bought! My physical therapist recommended this to me when I told her that I was having a hard time working out my legs and it's such a simple product but it makes such a great workout when you can't make it to the gym. You can work out your arms, legs, and chest with this product and plus you can put it in your bag and take it everywhere with you including on vacation.

The 5 Minute Morning Work Out
You ever have those mornings where right when you wake up you realize that it's going to be a painfully long day and all you're looking forward to is going back to bed by the end of it? That's how my week has been so instead of going to the gym, I've been doing a quick 5 minute workout in the mornings right before I hop in the shower. I usually do 20 squats, 30 curl ups, a 30 second plank, and then finish with 25 jumping jacks. Better than nothing! Depending on how much time you have, you can do more but this is usually my minimum.

Hope these tips helped! What else would you like to see covered in my fitness posts? I'm not gonna lie, I love writing them because they keep me motivated when it comes to my own fitness journey!

Blush Pink Jacket

Jacket: Blank NYC // Top: Express, old // Jeans: Paige // Shoes: c/o Windsor // Hat: H&M // Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs // Lips: Mac "Brave"

It's been a while since I've posted an outfit and that's because of all the strange weather we've been having lately such as last week's snow storm! Crazy. At least spring seems to finally be here and I can pull out some new pieces that I've been impatiently waiting to wear. Right when I saw this suede jacket, I fell in love cause it's in my favorite color: blush pink! For some reason, I can't find it in this color anywhere but I linked the other colors (such as periwinkle which I'm obsessing over!). Normally I feel guilty for buying a jacket cause I already own so many but I don't own too many suede jackets so I didn't feel as guilty but of course I'm going to be selling a few of my jackets that have been stuck in the back of my closet for a while now. I'm actually going to be working on a post all about selling your clothes so stay tuned!

I decided to pair the jacket with an all-black outfit which I rarely wear cause it can come across as being too simple but in this case it works perfectly. I switched it up with a lace cami that doesn't out stand too much and take away from the beauty of the jacket but still gives it a little something.

Lastly, these new mules. SO GORGEOUS. And looks so much more expensive than it is! Can you believe it was only $22?! Hurry up and buy it because sizes are running out and this was actually the restock so I'm not sure if they're going to be bringing it back to Windsor after this! It's also available in a beautiful red velvet material as well as black. I assumed that the quality would be cheap and that they would hurt my feet but not the case! They're actually super comfortable and better quality than expected.

Thanks for reading,

On My Radar: Spring Trends 2017

Oh trends, we all seem to get pulled into them right? They're just so tempting! This year, spring trends seem to especially be tempting for me since everything is so feminine. I'm talking ruffles, bows, and everything blush pink! I decided to round up some of my favorite trendy pieces which we could all use to refresh our wardrobe for the new season.

First up is this embroidery jeans from Topshop which for a pair of jeans, looks so elegant! I'm also loving this open back top from Milly since stripes are here to stay again for the spring/summer. Plus how cute is that bow?! Speaking of bows, you might've seen my bow mules over on Instagram and I linked the leather version here which is comfy enough to wear everyday. As for accessiores, I also posted on my Instagram this handbag which comes in cream and reminds me of the 90's. Also I'm going through an earrings phase right now and I'm totally dying to get these earrings from Baublebar! Lastly for makeup, glowy skin is in for the spring and I've been looking into getting this highlighter palette from Hourglass which gives a gorgeous, natural finish. And I had to include the new Bobbi Brown art stick which comes in liquid form now! I already own the lip crayon art stick and use it almost everyday but have to invest in these new ones!

What are you loving for spring? Let me know below!

Introducing...SS&S Styling

If there's one area that Rochester is lacking in, it's fashion. Countless times I've heard people around Rochester say that fashion can be intimidating and is considered a luxury. Or in other words "it's fun to look at, but totally unaffordable". These are the kinds of thoughts that inspired me to launch...

This service is specifically catered to college girls and young women, who are looking to enhance their wardrobe while not breaking the bank which includes the styling services! Yup, that's right. I'm offering budget-friendly styling services because I've always believed that it's possible to obtain true style without spending thousands on clothes. Currently I'm offering three kinds of styling services but feel free to email me if you have any other ideas:

This would be an hour long session where we could meet up for coffee and talk about defining your personal style. This is a great option for beginners who feel lost when it comes to fashion and need some recommendations on what would look flattering on them. After the session, I would create a Pinterest board for your personal style that you can always refer to for inspiration as well as a list of items that are available online or in stores that I think would be a great way to enhance your style.

If you're the type of gal that has an overflowing closet and needs some organization then this option is for you! Together, we'll create new outfits from existing clothes and accessories and get rid of items that are either too old or just don't work with your personal style. Plus I'll teach you my best tricks for selling old clothes online so you can make some extra cash on the side!

Here's the more fun choice: let's go shopping together! This is a great option if you're shopping for a special occasion, vacation, or just want to refresh your wardrobe. You'll also have the option of choosing the location and there is no time limit.

I'm so excited to help you gals with your styling needs! Email me at sweetshortandstylish@gmail.com for any questions or to learn about rates.

Best Self-Tanners For Every Budget

Ever since I was in high school, I've been using self-tanners to give me a healthy glow for events (I used L'Oreal Sublime lotion for prom...ahh the memories) since I'm so paranoid about wrinkles, aging, and that big thing called skin cancer. I've never been one of those girls that will go to a tanning bed and never will be! It's just so much easier this way! Since I spent my spring break recovering from getting my wisdom teeth removed, I decided it was time for a little TLC and needed a light tan to get me feeling glam again which inspired me to write this post! Note: I've tried every product listed here but my holy grail self-tanner will always be St. Tropez! Pricey but worth it. Anyways, here are all of my favorites:

Under $15:

L'oreal Sublime Bronze Tanning Lotion - This was the first self-tanner that I've tried back in my high school days which is under $10 at most drugstores and makes you super dark quick. I would say to apply it in LIGHT layers so you can control how dark you want to be because this stuff is super pigmented. The only cons is that it has subtle sparkles and a floral scent which I personally don't like but for the results and price, it's worth it for a special occasion!

Jergens Instant Sun Mousse - I love Jergens tanning products because the results look super natural and if you're looking for something subtle for the winter time then this is the best product. It's also great for beginners since mousse is easier to apply than cream and dries quickly so you can get going in the mornings.

Kardashian Sunkissed Instant Sunless Lotion - Yes, I tried a product from the Kardashians. I know, I know. I was at Ulta one day and bought this on a whim (I think I even did a review of this product when I first started my blog haha!) and believe it or not, I actually like it. It smells a hell of a lot better than most self-tanners (it has a tropical scent) and despite being a lotion, it soaks into your skin quickly and gives you a natural glow in under an hour. My only complaint is that it lasts for 2-3 days then it starts fading compared to other drugstore products.

$20-$25:

Sephora Collection Tinted Self-Tanning Body Mist - I love this body mist since it's so easy to apply and not mess up. Plus you can use it on your face and not have to worry about streaks. For $18, it's a great quality product that I recommend beginners try first!

Paula's Choice Sun 365 Self Tanning Foam - Two words: odor-free. If the smell of self-tanner makes you want to vomit then this is the product for you. It gives the most gorgeous olive tan and one coat lasts for about 5 days and fades away naturally instead of leaving your skin messy.

$30+

St. Tropez Tanning Mousse - Oh St. Tropez, how I love you. If only you weren't so expensive. For 4 ounces, it's $32 at Sephora but the results are so. freaking. natural. People will constantly ask you if you went on vacation when you have this on! And I swear, it almost looks like I have more freckles when I put this stuff on as if I've been in the sun all day. It's weird cause once it fades away, those freckles disappear as well! Am I just imagining things? I don't know but I can't say enough good things about this product. Did I mention it dries in under 60 seconds? Alright I'll stop now haha.

Tarte Brazilliance Plus Self Tanner - This is a new one that came out and I received a generous sample of it and what's unique about this product is that it makes your skin feel amazing and moisturized! It also has no parabens and is vegan so for $40, you are paying for a product that's a lot better for your body than anything else that's out on the market. The best part? The smell fades away after application! The one downside is that your tan will take a couple of hours to develop so I recommend using this at night.

Hope you guys enjoyed this post! Have you tried any of these self-tanners?

#BloggerBoss: Tips For Getting Accepted Into RewardStyle

Last summer, I was fortunate enough to get accepted into RewardStyle/LiketoKnow.it (on my second try!) and ever since then, my blogging game has been different. Before getting accepted into the program, I was using RewardStyle myself to find out what my favorite fashion bloggers were wearing instead of just going to their blogs or commenting on their Instagram (takes too long to get a response back!) but have always wondered what it takes for a blogger to get accepted into the program. At the time, there wasn't much information about what makes a blogger RewardStyle-worthy and the whole thing felt like a mystery especially when I got rejected on my first try. That's why I thought this would be a perfect post for #BloggerBoss and hopefully help you to get one step closer to getting accepted! Here's my advice:

Photography Quality

RewardStyle really seems to look for blogs and Instagram accounts that have incredible photography quality - I'm talking clear, sharp, not over-edited, photos that makes you look professional online. When I applied for RewardStyle on my first try, my photos were obviously taken with a DSLR but I wasn't using a separate lens at the time so my photos looked a bit amateur. Once I bought a new lens and improved my photography, I ended up getting accepted into the program and I honestly think this was one of the reasons. If you look at many fashion blogger accounts, you'll see that everyone has great quality photos!

Instagram Feed

In my last #BloggerBoss post, I talked about how to create a cohesive Instagram feed and this is especially important if you want to get accepted into RewardStyle. Having a cohesive theme makes your Instagram look more organized, neat, and visually-interesting. Plus it shows that you're really taking the time to work on your Instagram and brand image! The first time that I tried to get into RewardStyle, I had no theme and my feed just looked very messy especially with the filter that I had chosen which was too dark and didn't go with my brand. Make sure to work on this!

Products

Are the types of products that you talk about easily found on RewardStyle? For example, if you're a blogger that talks a lot about vintage clothing that's one of a kind and not easily found anyplace else, then you might not get accepted into the program cause RewardStyle doesn't have any links to those kinds of clothes.

Strong Following

Many people make the mistake of thinking that they can't accepted into programs like RewardStyle because they don't have thousands of followers. Not true! It's all about how strong your following is. If you only have 1000 followers but have a lot of engagement and likes as well as a good brand image, then you're likely to get chosen. It's all about how much your followers trust you and how likely it is that they're going to use RewardStyle to shop from your photos.

Hope these tips helped! Let me know what else you would like to see covered on my #BloggerBoss series!

Best Photography Spots in Rochester

When I first started blogging, I had the most difficult time finding great places to shoot in Rochester. Ever since I was a kid, I thought this place was just, well...ugly. Over the years, I've discovered that Rochester has it's own kind of beauty and if you get a chance to explore, then you'll be amazed at how many great photography locations we actually have! I decided to put together a list of all the places that I've either taken my blog photos at (which is about 90% of places on this list!) or I'm planning to take. Here's my list:

For Murals...

If you're looking for something a little more artsy, then you're in luck cause Rochester has tons of beautiful murals that make a great background in your photos. My personal favorites are the ones at the Public Market such as the deer one and the stock lives one. In total, I think there's 5-6 murals at the Public Market alone! There's also one of the side of the Natural Oasis building which no one seems to know about but you can see more pics of here. There's also Village Gate, Artisan Works (on Blossom Road), the Rochester mural over on Scio Street, and the ones on the side of the Parkleigh building.

For Elegance...

For fancier outfits, I usually like to shoot at someplace elegant such as the gardens at the George Eastman Museum which I recently did a shoot at in my birthday post that you can see here. There's also City Hall which is a popular photography location for weddings (especially the staircase) and during Christmas they have a big tree in there which works for holiday shoots. I also love the Memorial Art Gallery, the entrance to the Eastman School of Music (especially when it's sunset and the lights come on), Cobbs Hill Reservoir, and the Sunken Gardens at Warner Castle.

For Cold Weather...

While many of these locations can work in cold weather, sometimes you just want to see some greenery and there's where the Lamberton Conservatory in Highland Park comes in. It works beautifully if you want to escape from the cold and need something "tropical" in your photos. I also love the Winter Garden which provides natural lighting which is hard to find indoors during the winter. P.S. in front of the entrance to the Winter Garden there's actually signs on the ground that say Rochester on it as you can see in the above picture.

For Warm Weather...

Some pretty obvious ones would be Ontario Beach, Irondequoit Bay, the Pittsford Canal, and the Genesee Gateway Park (which has a gorgeous view of the bridge!) if you're looking for spots near the water. If you're willing to take a mini road trip, then check out the Sonnenberg Gardens in Canandaigua which I'm dying to shoot at once the weather is nice. Lastly, if you're looking for flowers then the popular sunflower field on Calkins Road is beautiful (make sure to go during late July/August!), Highland Park (during the lilac festival, of course) and a gem that people such as myself always forget about: the Maplewood Rose Garden.

Any places that I missed? Comment down below and let me know!

Shopbop Spring Sale Favorites

As much as I love Shopbop, their stuff can get pretty expensive. Especially when you're on a college girl's budget! So when they have a sale I always like to take advantage and stock up on some amazing stuff for the spring and summer. Make sure to use the code "GOBIG17" which applies for both full-price and sale items so you can get 15% off orders of $200+, 20% off orders of $500+, and if you really feeling like spending some money on a new wardrobe then 25% off orders of 800+.

I linked some of my favorite stuff from the sale that you can shop below. Last year I bought this gorgeous white lace up dress which I can't wait to wear again! White is my weakness and that's probably why I'm eyeing so many white pieces from the sale this year as well haha such as that ruffled-bow top! And that scallop off the shoulder dress is everything and only $54! As for shoes, I loved the Soludos wedges that I bought last summer and thinking of getting these striped ones (under $60!) or these pink satin mules which totally reminds me of the 90's. Lastly, this is the perfect time to stock up on designer bags and Rebecca Minkoff has some gorgeous ones such as that pink bucket bag or the camera bag which is perfect for spring break. And how can I not include that fun phone case? I recently just got an iPhone 7 and I can't find good phone cases for it anywhere!

Happy shopping!
