My Summertime Scent

This post was sponsored by Vera Wang Fragrances as part of an Activation for Influence Central. I received complimentary products to facilitate my review.

Summer's officially here which means lighter makeup, lighter clothes, and of course a lighter fragrance. Since I'm a huge fragrance fan, I was excited to test out the new Vera Wang Embrace Marigold and Gardenia fragrance. This is actually my first time trying out a fragrance from Vera Wang but I've always heard such great things about their line of fragrances (and who isn't a fan of the iconic wedding dress label?!) so I had a feeling I wouldn't be disappointed. When I read the description, I was immediately drawn to the idea of a fragrance that's light and airy and most importantly, doesn't give me a headache. Plus I was running low on perfume and needed something new for the summertime. Every season has it's scent am I right?

If I had to describe the fragrance in one word it would be: warm. I know that sounds strange but it's such a comforting scent that you can wear year-round (but I think works during the summertime the best!) and now I understand why this is a part of the Embrace fragrance collection from Vera Wang. It's such an intimate scent that works for so many occasions such as date night, family reunions (in my case), or even just for everyday. I can even see it being a beautiful fragrance to wear on your wedding day and would make a great gift for a bride-to-be!

While I'm usually not a huge fan of marigold because it can come across as a bit "granny", in this case it didn't bother me at all. Also I'm in love with the simple yet sleek bottle that's completely expected from a brand such as Vera Wang and looks gorgeous on a vanity. Oh and the small bottle size? Yes please! Totally works if you like to carry around your fragrance for a quick touch-up like I do.

While I was testing out this fragrance, I was on vacation in Istanbul visiting my family and doing tons of sightseeing in ridiculously hot weather so I needed something that would be long lasting and makes me feel confident and put together at all times. I was pleased to find that this fragrance lasted from 9am all the way until late at night! Impressive. I'm glad it was so long-lasting because I was constantly hugging family members and no one wants to hug someone that smells awful haha. The best part is I received tons of compliments on the fragrance and there's nothing like a good old compliment to turn your day around and make you feel you're best again.

In case you feel like purchasing the fragrance, the Vera Wang Embrace collection is available at Kohl's stores and online. Before you do that though, make sure to enter to win one of ten fragrance kits which includes all four of the Vera Wang Embrace collection fragrances such as Green Tea & Pear Blossom, Rose & Vanilla, Perwinkle & Iris, and of course Marigold & Gardenia. The contest ends on July 12 so make sure to enter before it's too late! All you have to do is choose a social media sharing option and you're good to go:

Mirrors

Top: BCBG Maxazria // Jeans: Joe's // Shoes: J. Crew, sold out // Bag: Michael Kors, old // Lipstick: Bobbi Brown Lip Crayon in "Rich Nude" // Watch: Michael Kors // Sunglasses: Ray-Ban

I know, I know, I'm super behind when it comes to blogging and even social media. The reason for that is that I'm back in the US and currently living in NYC for the rest of the summer for my internship! I'm not going to mention what company I'm working for since I'm a social media intern and have restrictions on what I can talk about online when it comes to work but I can say that it's at one of my favorite fashion companies and have worn their clothes on my blog before. Honestly, it's a dream come true and sometimes I have to pinch myself because I can't believe it's happening. Of course, living in NYC is another story. Don't get me wrong, I love visiting the city but living here can be rough. But I'll get to that in another post specifically dedicated to NYC life. Of course, the energy of NYC is always a good feeling. It makes me feel like I can do anything and take on everything. And living in a city filled with countless incredible shops? Yes please!

Anyways, here's an outfit post from Istanbul that I forgot to post which was taken in a cute little park that we found while walking around Bagdat Caddesi in the Suadiye neighborhood. I knew the mirrors and picture frames would be a gorgeous background for this simple summer outfit. Yet again, I'm living in white jeans that I usually cuff during the summertime along with this gorgeous cut-out shirt from BCBG. I fell in love with the print of this shirt which looks so elegant and would go perfectly tucked into a white pencil skirt for a fancy dinner or other special occasions.

Thanks for reading and I promise I'm not leaving blogging anytime soon! I'm still adjusting to everything here and we all know how much of a pain moving can be :( I'm still here though!

Istanbul Shopping Scenes: Zorlu Center

Leave it to Instagram to help me figure out some great places to shop in Istanbul! On the top of my list was Zorlu Center which is a two floor shopping center located in the Besiktas neighborhood. The first floor is outdoors and is filled with luxury shops such as Prada and Miu Miu and the second floor (underground) has chain stores such as Mango, H&M, Victoria's Secret, and... you get the idea. If you feel like making an escape from all the tourism, want to get some fresh air, or just want to see some Turkish celebrities then I highly recommend Zorlu Center!

The first thing you'll notice on the top floor is the sleek, modern design and beautiful skyscrapers surrounding the place. While there are plenty of luxury shops, I was surprised to find shops such as Tory Burch and Michael Kors also on that floor. In Turkey, American brands are actually considered luxury and sold at ridiculously high prices so make sure to skip those brands cause it's just not worth it.

Personally, I was on that floor just for some good old window shopping. Check out the beautiful display at Dolce & Gabanna!

Next, we head some lunch at Tom's Kitchen which I personally wasn't a big fan of but hey I wasn't paying lol. I didn't really like anything on the menu so I played it safe with some mac & cheese (small portions cause it's "high-end", naturally). If you're at Zorlu Center and you're hungry, make sure to go downstairs to the second floor and head to the food court for some cheap food that will actually fill your stomach. The only thing I liked about this place was that it was outdoors so we can freely people-watch all those Instagram-worthy Dubai fashionistas walking around and of course actually spotted a Turkish actor and a model!

And of course more luxury shops...

Sadly I didn't get any shots on the second floor since my battery was going to die but overall, I liked the place but didn't really love it. The reason for this is because I thought it was a bit weird how they separated the "two classes" of people from each other. While the rich and famous got to shop outdoors, regular people such as myself had to go to the second floor and it just felt a bit ridiculous. Why not mix the two? I don't know, that's just my honest opinion. Plus I thought they could have more variety as far as luxury restaurants on the top floor. Why not have some chains such as Laudree located up there? Once again I'm being picky haha.

Thanks for reading! What's everyone up to this summer? Any exciting travel plans?

Gingham + White Jeans

Top: J. Crew // Jeans: Hollister // Bag: Tory Burch // White bracelet: Macy's // Bow bracelet: Kate Spade // Watch: Michael Kors // Belt bracelet: Michael Kors

Another pre-written post cause I'm currently going through Internet issues once again (seriously what is up with Europe and not having abundant free Wi-Fi like in the US?! It's right up there with no air conditioning!) and just haven't found the time to shoot new outfits. I have a new found appreciation for travel bloggers who have mastered the ability to blog on a consistent basis while traveling. It's freaking hard!

Anyways, these pics were shot last month when spring had just begun and I was taking advantage of the warmer days with some good old white jeans and my favorite gingham shirt that's lightweight and transitions easily into the summer. Even though gingham isn't technically considered a "basic", I think it's great for everyone to have it in their wardrobe if you're not really into prints but need something that just screams "summer".

Current Obsession: Emilia Clarke for Harper's Bazaar UK

Forget winter, summer's coming ♥ Lately I've been spending so much time exploring and being with my family in Istanbul that I haven't had much time to see what's going on in the fashion world. Then a few days ago I was on Instagram and spotted Emilia Clarke's (did I mention she's my girl crush and is freaking adorable?!) latest shoot with Harper's Bazaar UK for their July 2016 issue.

The dreamy blue background and the airy Dior outfits makes me wonder why I've never done a shoot at the beach before. Maybe it's because I don't have a million dollar wardrobe and would look like a total idiot walking around like that at the beach haha. But in the fashion world? It looks like perfection and has me totally excited for summer!

If you follow me on Pinterest (@ruyakirac), you would already know how obsessed I am with magazine shoots and always look forward to the ones in Harper's Bazaar UK. They just seem to go all out and have gorgeous concepts. What I love about this shoot is Emilia's messy and imperfect beach waves and how they paired it with some glam dresses that look like they belong on the red carpet yet seem just right for the shoot. Who would've thought? It's care-free yet polished all at the same time. Plus I just love a girly, feminine shoot!

Who doesn't love a white dress for the summer? This is my favorite look and just look at that scallop edge top! O-B-S-E-S-S-E-D

What do you think about this shoot? What gets you excited for summer? I would love to hear your thoughts!

Third Blogiversary

Photography: Kate O'Brien

Hey ladies! Today's the day...my third blogiversary! I actually forgot it was my blogiversary (I know, I know. Talk about a bad blogger haha) until my Mom actually reminded me about it. We were out grabbing some lunch and walking when my Mom stopped me in the middle of the street and said "Happy Blogiversary!" and wanted to buy me a cake with Sweet, Short & Stylish written on it lmao. She's treating it like it's a national holiday. Mom's are the best ♥

Today's shoot is actually an old one that I shot with Kate but saved for a special occasion. I wouldn't actually recommend a tutu for the summertime but it looks adorable doesn't it? Plus I've never seen one in maroon so I had to buy it! Sadly I couldn't link the exact one online but check in costume stores!

Lastly, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for actually taking the time to read my blog and for following me on social media! As cheesy as this is going to sound, every single like, follow, and comment means A LOT to me.

Thanks for reading,
