Healthy Skin With St. Ives

For as long as I can remember, I've always suffered from terribly dry skin. It only gets worse during the winter time and I'm constantly forced to use product after product in order to make my skin look somewhat decent. That's why I was excited when I got the chance to work with St. Ives and review their new Nourished & Smooth Oatmeal Body Scrub along with their Nourish & Soothe Oatmeal & Shea Butter Lotion. Finally some products that could cure my dry skin with an ingredient that I love, oatmeal! Not only do I eat oatmeal on a frequent basis because of it's health benefits (ex: giving me enough energy to head to an 8am class ugh!) but also because it has this way of cleaning and nourishing your system and helping you to look and feel radiant.

I received the products a few days ago and just had to take a picture of the box and wrapping. Just look at those jars filled with oatmeal, so cute! St. Ives has recently teamed up with OatMeals which is a popular NYC store and created the St. Ives Radiance Boost Bowl. It contains rolled oats, dried pears, almonds, and even cranberries! Not gonna lie, the first thing that I did was boil some hot water and added it into the jar and had some delicious oatmeal as an afternoon snack. No shame. I can confirm that it was ridiculously tasty! It's available at the OatMeals NY store location until April 8th so head over to get your oatmeal on and receive a St. Ives sample when you order the Radiance Boost Bowl!

Now let's get on to the review, I first used the Nourished & Smooth Oatmeal Body Scrub in the shower in order to smooth away dry, rough skin. Despite being a scrub, it didn't feel harsh on my skin and didn't leave any redness behind either. It also doesn't have a strong, overpowering scent which is a big pet peeve of myn. I'm pretty sure this is because it's made with natural ingredients such as walnut shell, honey, and of course oatmeal. This is great for anyone who has sensitive skin that's allergic to heavy fragrances and chemical ingredients. I was left with soft and smooth skin without any trace of dryness, finally!

Afterwards, I moisturized with the Nourish & Smooth Oatmeal & Shea Butter Body Lotion which didn't feel greasy and soaked into my skin right away. This is not only a great product to use during the wintertime but all year long since it doesn't feel heavy on the skin and dries quickly.

Overall, these two products have become staples in my body care collection and I wish I discovered them sooner! They're simple, no-fuss, and leaves your skin feel renewed and beautiful. Just what I needed in order to get through the rest of this winter!

Charmed by Charleston

Hey ladies! I just got out of my last class and that spring break feeling has officially hit me. Only 4 more days until I head to one of the most charming cities in the world...Charleston! It's been a while since I've traveled (#brokecollegegirlprobs) and quite frankly I need some sunshine, good food, and beautiful scenery. Charleston has been on my list for a while and I haven't had much chance to explore the south other than my NOLA trip which was like forever ago. I can't wait to get out of the snow and feel what it's like to explore a new city again.

Of course I'll be blogging about the whole trip and posting on Instagram while I'm there but in the meantime I thought it would be cool to show you what I'm thinking about packing. The weather is going to be 70 and sunny and sadly, I don't even remember what that feels like! haha. I was inspired by the bright colors of Rainbow Row, palm trees, and of course food! Who doesn't love those pineapple espadrilles?!

Feelin' 22

It's the most wonderful time of the year...aka my birthday! haha. Yes, I totally feel like a grandma turning 22 today and life just seems like it's going way too fast and all I wanna do is go back to being a little girl. Hey at least I'm a year wiser, am I right? Speaking of wisdom, I thought it would be fitting to share a few wise words with you gals. I know, I know this is mainly a fashion blog and 99% of the time I'm either talking about the newest makeup product or showing off an outfit but sometimes you just gotta be real and deep about things.

Around this time last year, I was in a dark place and ended up having an awful 21st birthday because of it. Did I share it on social media or my blog? Of course not. There aren't many bloggers that share their low moments online and it just ruins that "fashion blogger image" doesn't it? It was all because I wished my life could be this or that. I wasn't grateful about anything and felt pathetic and wanted so much more for myself. I was going through an awful cycle of self-loathing and wished my life could be different.

I just wanted to let you gals know that you can change and get out of a dark place in your life. All you have to do is stop wishing and start taking action. It could take weeks or it could take months, but a year from now you'll look back and realize how far you've come. Progress is progress, no matter how small. It's possible to be your own hero and save yourself.

Instead of feeling bad for yourself, be grateful for everything that you have, no matter how "small and stupid" it may seem. It's all about the little things. For example, today I decided to treat myself to a lunch filled with delicious carbs, head to a vigorous yoga class (yes, yoga can be intense haha), and I'm headed to dinner tonight. These things seem so simple but one day you'll look back and realize these were the big things. You don't need a Kardashian lifestyle in order to be happy. Life's too short to be miserable about everything. Choose to be grateful.

Alright, enough of that deep stuff. How awesome is this ombre cake though?! Kudos to my Mom for getting me cake every year even though I tell her not to lol. Thank you for the kind birthday wishes everyone!

Spring Dreaming

Coat: J. Crew // Blazer: Express // Top: Express // Jeans: Madewell // Boots: forgot the brand (similar) // Bag: Kate Spade, old (similar)

Here's a look from last week that I forgot to post, right before I switched up my hair. Normally, I wouldn't even attempt to take photos while it's snowing but I thought the snow would be a nice contrast against the mint blue coat previously seen here. It's quite obvious that these photos didn't turn out that great but hey it's the look that counts right? I'm pretty sure I'm never going to attempt to take photos in this weather ever again though haha.

I wore this look to a class presentation (which I absolutely hate! Who else gets super nervous?) and lately I've been having so many that it's getting hard to even put an outfit together for it that's not boring. There's nothing fun about business clothes and it kills me that I have to dress like this if I'm going to be working in an office for the rest of my life.

I tried to add some pops of color to this all-black outfit with the mint coat and bag along with the floral pattern on the blouse. Can you tell how much I want it to be spring already? By the way, since I haven't found the perfect pair of black business pants, I'll usually wear black skinny jeans since it gives off the same illusion. I've seen so many girls do this for presentations and it just works if you need something last minute.

What do you wear for class presentations? Do you hate business clothes as much as I do? Let me know!

Current Obsession: Block Heels

Is there anything more chic than block heels? I've been noticing them popping up in stores these past couple months and I slowly fell in love with them! At first I was like, "those look too granny" but girl, the retro heel makes you look instantly polished while making your legs longer AND they're easy to walk in. Heels that are easy to walk in!? You know this short girl is gonna buy them! Just in case you're still not convinced, they come in a variety of different styles such as sandals or even slingbacks. Yes, slingbacks are back and they're fabulous. I just can't decide.

What do you think about block heels? Yay or too granny like I previously thought? haha.

L'Oréal Extraordinary Oil

When it comes to my hair, I'm constantly looking for new products that's going to help moisturize and take away the damage accumulated from years of dyeing it. That's why I was excited when I got the opportunity to test out the new Extraordinary Oil line from L'Oréal. The line was specifically created for people suffering from dry hair and contains lightweight oils such as Argan, Chamomile, Coconut, and Amla to name a few. They were kind enough to send me the Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner along with the Lustrous Oil Serum and Transforming Oil-In-Cream.

The first thing I noticed about the shampoo and conditioner is the heavy, overwhelming smell. Personally, I get headaches easily from certain kinds of perfumes so I was afraid this wasn't going to be good for me. Luckily, the smell fades away after washing and I noticed that my hair felt a lot more moisturized yet didn't look or feel greasy. It also gave it a little bit of shine which I was happy about since my hair usually looks dead without any products in it.

What I was really excited to test out was the Transforming Oil-In-Cream since my hairstylist had recommended that I use a leave-in product but I wasn't sure which one to use. Talk about perfect timing! You can actually use the product in three ways: before blow-drying, as a night treatment, or simply apply it directly on dry hair. I decided to use a quarter-size amount on wet hair before blow-drying my hair straight and noticed that I had less frizz and my hair felt silkier. Then, I finished the look by adding a pea-size amount of the Lustrous Oil Serum to the ends of my hair for some extra shine since they're usually the driest part of my hair.

Overall, I'm happy with the line and think that it's worth giving a try, especially if you're looking for something that's not going to make your hair greasy. The only problem that I had with it is the smell but if you can get over that, then I think this line could be a great addition to your hair care collection.

Summer Hair In The Winter

I really hate myself for not blogging this week but the only excuse I can really use is: life haha. I promise I'm going to update frequently again so just bear with me. I have been updating my Instagram (@ruyakiraccc) of course so feel free to follow me on there just in case you're dying to know what I'm doing. Shameless plug haha.

In the meantime, I noticed that I was seriously in need of a good hair cut and color so I took a chance and headed to a new salon. I swear I've tried every single salon in Rochester and nothing has really "wow'ed" me. It's like I like my hair for a few days but then get sick of it after a while. Maybe it's just boredom? I don't know, but I was definitely in the mood for something summery in order to get me through this awful winter we're having aka a big snow storm hitting Rochester and the city ended up going viral on social media haha.

Anyways, I asked my hairstylist for lighter hair that would suite my skin tone, lots of face-framing highlights, and to style it in beach waves. This was my first time using Olaplex which is a great alternative to bleach and less harsh on the hair. I'm obsessed with the results and I definitely think Olaplex makes a huge difference when it comes to going lighter. Of course, my hair was pretty light at the ends before but this just gave it an all-over lighter effect without the damage. I highly recommend trying Olaplex despite most salons charging extra for it! Trust me, going lighter with bleach just isn't worth it.

Lastly, sorry for the iPhone quality pictures. My camera battery was dead and I really wanted to get this post out as quickly as possible. Normally, I wouldn't put selfies on my blog but I know people seem to like my hair posts (my bronde one is one of my most popular blog posts of all time, crazy!) so I thought it would get the job done.

Stripes & Polka Dots

Coat: Express, old (similar) (similar) // Sweater: Maison Jules, old (similar) (similar) // Jeans: J. Crew Factory // Bag: Kate Spade, old (similar) // Watch: Kate Spade // Bow bracelet: Kate Spade // Pearl bracelet: Baublebar, old (similar)

Happy Friday everyone! It seems like this week just flew by and I'm totally not complaining cause I need a break. Lately I've been really feeling the winter blues and can't seem to get myself out this funk. I can't really describe the feeling, it's not that I feel sad, I just feel very "ehh". Like I don't care about anything ya know? Even my blog has been suffering from it! I just don't feel inspired, ugh.

Anyways, I just need to get that off my chest. I feel like I never vent on my blog haha. Let's get back to the outfit! Here's a casual outfit that's comfy for college yet still put together. Fun fact: when I first began blogging, I remember noticing that there wasn't many girls online wearing realistic, affordable clothes that could actually work in a college setting and that was one of the reasons why I started my blog.

I just love this striped sweater with the polka dot ruffles and wish it wasn't sold out! The entire Maison Jules brand is adorable though and perfect for anyone who loves feminine clothing. As for the jeans, I recently got these at the petite section at J. Crew Factory and they're the first pair of jeans that I own that doesn't need to be hemmed! You bet I'm going to go back and buy some more haha.

Have a lovely weekend!

Bioré Baking Soda Cleanser and Pore Scrub

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #BioreFizz #CollectiveBias

Oh combination skin, how I hate you :( It's tough finding products that are able to treat the problems that combo skin comes with but also not dry out the skin and make it irritable. I was excited when I heard that Bioré was coming out with some new products that were specifically designed for combination skin and used an interesting ingredient: baking soda! I've never heard of a product having that before so I eager to test it out (and also to see if it really fizzes! haha I'm such a kid). The two new products are the Baking Soda Cleanser and the Pore Scrub. Why baking soda? It's a natural cleansing ingredient that's able to get into pores and help get rid of dirt without over-scrubbing.

Before I get into the review, I just wanted to say how much I love the cap on the Baking Soda Pore Scrub which makes it easy to pour the product onto your hands while the Baking Soda Pore Cleanser claims to purify your pores in just 2 days! Whoa. Okay, now I'm really excited to see if it works.

Let's put it to the test! Here's how to use the Baking Soda Pore Scrub

Step 1: Use a Quarter Size Amount

What's so unique about this product is that it's actually in powder form! It's a customizable scrub so you simply have to dial up or down the amount of exfoliation that's needed. I decided to use a quarter sized amount and just poured some directly onto my hand.

Step 2: Add Water

In order to activate the ingredients (and more importantly, make it fizz haha) just add some water and mix. It's crazy how it instantly fizzes and turns into foam in seconds. It's just such a fun product and completely different than what I'm used to.

Step 3: Wash Your Face

What I love about this scrub is that it's super gentle on the face so you're not left with red skin and there's no need for over scrubbing.

Right when I started washing the scrub off my hands, I remember how soft my hands felt so imagine what it did for my skin! It left a pretty glow on my face and didn't leave my skin feeling tight or irritable while still managing to get rid of dry flakes. Impressive! Not only did I not have to use much product in order to get great results but I used less of my moisturizer afterwards because my skin felt hydrated enough. It's a winner in my book!

If you're in the mood to try a unique, new product from Bioré (or follow them on social media!) then head over to everyone's favorite store (including myn!) aka Target and you can find them in the skincare aisle.

Valentine's Day Look With Maybelline

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and it's advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #MNYLookstoLove #CollectiveBias

Valentine's Day is almost here and I don't know about you but I'm in the mood to get all glammed up (okay, so when am I not?). Whether you're celebrating Galentine's Day with your besties or heading to a fancy dinner with your significant other, I thought this romantic smokey eyes look would be perfect for the occasion. Let's get started!

Step 1: Mauve Crease Shade

I already went ahead and applied foundation, filled in my eyebrows, and applied blush/bronzer to my cheeks so let's move on to the eyes. For this look, I'm going to be using the Maybelline Rock Nudes Palette which has 12 shades that includes both matte and shimmery colors. Apply the matte, mauve shade onto your crease and make sure to blend it so there is no harsh lines.
Step 2: Plum and Charcoal Shade

Next I applied the matte plum color to the middle of my lid and the matte charcoal shade to the outer corners. I recommend starting out by adding a little bit to the corners, blending, and then adding some more until you achieved the look that you want. Some people prefer a little bit of a smokey look (such as myself) while others prefer more drama to their eyes. It's all up to you!
Step 3: Line & Highlight

Take that same charcoal shade and with the applicator that the palette comes with, line the bottom of your eyes halfway. This creates a clean, finished look while also making your eyes look bigger. Then, take the white shade in the palette and highlight the inner corners of your eyes and the brow bone.
Step 4: Eyeliner

In order to define your eyes more and make it look sultry, line your eyes with the Maybelline Master Precise Liner in Black.
Step 5: Mascara

No makeup look is complete without mascara and the Maybelline Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara definitely delivers. I love how unique the mascara brush is with cup-shaped bristles that gets to all the hard to reach spots and gives incredible volume. Plus the mascara tube is pink and red! Talk about festive! haha.

Step 6: Lipstick

Since the eyes are so dark, I prefer to use a light lip shade in order to balance it out. Nude colors typically don't look good on my pale skin, so I went with the Maybelline Color Sensational LipColor in Romantic Rose which is a soft, rose shade with hints of brown in it. One of my biggest pet peeves is lipsticks that dry out your lips but this one's so creamy and moisturizing!
And we're finished! A gorgeous smokey eyes look that's easy to recreate at home.

If you're wondering where I got the products from, check out your local Wal-Mart's Maybelline aisle and try out the look yourself.

Until next time lovelies,
