Best of 2016

With the year coming to a close, I thought this would be the perfect time to reflect and share my best posts of 2016! There was a lot of improvements with my blog this year such as investing in a new camera lens, getting more creative with my writing, and taking some risks. I really feel like 2016 was the year that I took my blog to another level and realized that this is no longer a hobby for me but one of my passions in life and that I'm in this for the long run. Here are my best posts from 2016:

Best Outfit Post

The first time that I shot with my new camera lens was for the Gingham + White Jeans post and it ended up becoming my most popular outfit post and this was the image that ended up becoming a hit on Pinterest! I'm so glad I invested in a new lens in 2016 because it completely improved my blog and made it look so much more professional. If you're contemplating buying a new camera lens, I urge you to do it! It's worth the money.

Best #BloggerBoss Post

This year I started my #BloggerBoss series and I couldn't be more happy with it! I love giving blogging advice and helping people. It's no surprise that my How to Write a Sponsorship Email was a hit since the fine art of pitching brands is something that isn't talked about a lot in the blogging world. After the success of this post, I realized that I should write about things that aren't talked about more often and to create more unique content like this. I just wish I did a better job with the graphic!

Best Beauty Post

I'll admit, in 2016 I didn't do as many beauty posts as I would've liked. The funny thing is when I first started my blog it was actually a beauty blog and now I tend to post more about fashion! This year my review of the Kerastase Discipline Curl Ideal Voxbox was my most popular. For 2017, I have plans for expanding the beauty section and posting more reviews and even makeup tutorials. If you have any suggestions please let me know!

Best Travel Post

Right before I left for my summer trip to Istanbul, I wrote Tips For Packing For An International Trip and I had so much fun writing and shooting it. I never would've thought it would become the most popular post of 2016! I wish I could write more travel posts like this but sadly being a college student limits my travels. My resolution for 2017 is to travel more so hopefully I'll be able to write more posts like this soon!

Best Collaboration

One of my favorite companies to work with this year was Bagdujour and I really enjoyed styling their beautiful designer handbags for my outfit posts. This was my first blogging about luxury fashion and was a little nervous since my blog is more about college fashion but you gals didn't seem to mind! My Fridays With Chloe post was the most viewed and I'm not surprised since that Chloe handbag was pretty unique!

Best Holiday Post

My Unique Gift Wrapping post was a last minute idea and my first time doing a DIY-style post. I worked hard on the photography and made sure it was super girly and perfect for the holidays and I guess my hard work paid off! I'm not that big into DIY but I would love to be able to do more posts like this that show my creative side. It's nice to take a break from fashion once in a while, you know what I mean?

Lastly, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that's been reading my blog and supporting me! 2016 has been the best year of my blogging career and I couldn't have done it with you guys ♥ Please let me know down below in the comment section, what kinds of posts you would like to see more of on Sweet, Short & Stylish in 2017. I hope everyone has a happy New Year!!!

Velvet For New Year's Eve

Top: Forever 21 // Jeans: Paige // Shoes: Forever 21 // Lips: Sonia Kashuk Lip Crayon in "Rosey Nude"

I can't believe there's only a few days until 2017! The holidays always seem to fly by and while I'm excited for the new year, there's going to be some big changes happening which I'm nervous about. Some of those big changes are graduating college in May (officially becoming an adult is so scary!) and then figuring out where I'm going to move to since my dream has always been to move out of Rochester and someplace more exciting and warm. I was going to go to college out of state but things didn't work out that way but now I feel more prepared and the timing feels right but the only problem is where to? I'm the type of person that has a hard time deciding on what to eat for lunch so imagine how difficult it must be for me to decide on a city! haha. There's just so many amazing cities in warm climates where I can work in the social media industry, it's just I don't know which one so if there's any recommendations let me know! I keep trying to remind myself that everything is going to work out and to trust the process but can you blame a girl for freaking out a little? haha.

Aside from my tiny meltdown, I was planning on wearing this outfit for a New Year's Eve party and thought this top was gorgeous since it's red velvet, has bell sleeves, and cut-out shoulders. I paired it with my all-time favorite heels which you would never guess is from Forever 21 because they look so much more expensive! I know a lot of you gals have been asking about them on Insta but sadly I can't find the exact ones cause they're sold out online and in stores. I bought them about a month ago so maybe you'll find them at your local Forever 21.

Thanks for reading, what's everyone doing for New Year's Eve? Anything exciting?

Nordstrom Sale Favorites

Hey ladies! I hope everyone had a great Christmas! I decided to take some time off of social media and blogging for a day or two to really enjoy the holidays and relax. But now that it's over, I'm back into blogging mode and of course, taking advantage of all the great sales that are going on like the Nordstrom sale. I swear, the best sales happen right after Christmas and this is a great time to stock up on your favorite winter items as well as beauty products such as holiday gift sets that go on major sale. The sale is until Jan 2 and includes free shipping and returns so make sure to check it out before it's all gone! Here's what I'm loving:

Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac - I love this classic black Mini Mac with the black sparkles. It's subtle and not over the top but still makes the bag look unique.

Mac Nutcracker Sweet Nude Mini Lipstick Kit - I already picked up this one and I'm so glad I did since the colors are perfect for everyday and for a mini size, the portions are quite generous! You can't beat this for $21!

Varsity Sweater - I'm obsessed with this collegiate inspired sweater that's perfect to wear for the upcoming semester.

Bobbi Brown Brightening Blush in Pink Truffle - I've been looking into adding more Bobbi Brown products to my collection and fell in love with this brightening blush which gives dull skin a glow during the winter months.

Lucky Brand Blue Booties - I'm bored of seeing the same old boots so a navy blue pair is just what I need to switch up my wardrobe.

Baublebar Choker - There's no such thing as too many chokers and this one is the perfect mix of elegance and trendy.

Vince Camuto Suede Over the Knee Boots - I love this brown pair of boots that looks cute with some jeans during the winter and with a dress and bare legs if you live in a warmer climate.

Happy shopping!

Unique Gift Wrapping Ideas

With Christmas only a few days away, I thought I'd switch things up a bit here on Sweet, Short & Stylish and talk about something different: gift wrapping! Raise your hand if you're bored of seeing the same old gift wrap paper and average bows everywhere you go! Yup, same here. That's why I thought this would be the perfect time to share some of my ideas on unique gift wrapping that's glam and out of the ordinary and will make your gifts talked about at your next holiday party:

Forget The Bows & Use Flowers

As much as I love bows, I have a hard time actually tying them on a gift box for some reason. Anyone else going through the same struggle?! Luckily, I have a bunch of fake flowers in my house that I use for blog pics and one day thought to myself: what would it look like if I just taped some onto a gift box? The result: ridiculously glam. You can use orchids for a more minimalist look, roses for something girly, or even poinsettias for a festive look!

Still Love Bows? Use Tulle Instead

If you really want to use a bow then I recommend unique fabrics like tulle! All you need is a square piece of tulle and another piece which you would cut into a long thin strip and tie it around the middle with that strip. It's a much more easier way of making a bow and takes only a few seconds! Hopefully I described that right but I'm sure you can see what I'm talking about in the pic below.

Unique Patterned Gift Wrap

Forget plaid wrapping paper and go for something more unique patterns such as polka dots, black and white stripes, or even sparkles! For my best friends, I went with leopard print cause they're all so sassy and consider leopard to be a neutral so they would appreciate it. You can find some great gift wrapping paper at places like TJ Maxx or Home Goods for great prices.

Storage Boxes

Not that great at gift wrapping? Neither am I! That's why I decided to try something new this year with storage boxes such as this marble and mint green one that I found at Home Goods. It looks super chic especially with the green flowers that I put on top, makes opening gifts super easy, and plus your loved one can re-use it around their home so technically it makes two gifts! haha.

Hope you guys enjoyed this post! What are some other unique ways that you wrap your gifts?

Bell Sleeve Sweater

Sweater: Ann Taylor // Jeans: J. Crew // Bag: Tory Burch // Lips: Maybelline "Divine Wine" // Shoes: Sam Edelman

Hi ladies, I hope everyone's finals went pain-free! Last week felt like the longest week of my life but I'm glad it's all over now and I can finally breathe again. Unfortunately, my boss at the retail shop that I work at decided to give more hours and I'm working long shifts up until Christmas. Just when I thought things were going to slow down! haha. On the bright side, at least I'll have some extra cash to spend and pick up a few new pieces for my wardrobe. If any of you gals work in retail this time of year, just know that you're going to survive!

As for this outfit, this is actually one of my favorites of the year! My mom dragged me into Ann Taylor one day (usually I'm not a big fan of the store just because it's a bit older) and I spotted this bell sleeve sweater in this beautiful color (what do they call this? rose?) and had to have it. It's super warm and while the sleeves are a bit too long on me, I still think it's a gorgeous piece that makes my winter wardrobe a little more pretty.

The sweater went perfectly with my bag which I get so many questions about but it's sold out everywhere! If you feel like going on the hunt for it, it's the Tory Burch Marion crossbody in "Maple Sugar". I can't find it anywhere but try Ebay! I also decided to switch up my hair since I feel like I never do anything with it other than leave it straight or curl the ends. A side ponytail with a ribbon just makes everything look so much more girly.

Holidays 2016 Gift Guide: For The Beauty Addict

Holiday Collections - I'm a sucker for beautiful packaging and this year's holiday collections such as the Mac and Mariah Carey collab and the YSL ones are just gorgeous! I also loved the limited edition mini ornaments that Too Faced released this year. Who doesn't want some mini mascara hanging from their tree? haha.

Hair - I've heard so many good things about the T3 curling iron plus it's rose gold and white! I also love the little Moroccan Argan Oil ornament which is cute to have as a stocking stuffer.

Nails - Nail polish is another great stocking stuffer and my go-to is Essie's new holiday collection but if you feel like splurging then these limited edition Dior ones with the vintage packaging are perfect.

Fragrance - The holidays are the time when limited edition fragrances come out and this year I'm excited about Marc Jacobs Daisy Red which is a holiday twist on the classic Daisy that I love. I'm also loving the sparkley Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb bottle!

Splurge Worthy - Now if you really feel like going all out with Christmas gifts this year or just know someone that is obsessed with beauty products and is a collector, then without a doubt you have to get a Christian Louboutin lipstick. Just look at that packaging! It's the most gorgeous piece to have sitting on your vanity.

Hope this gift guide helped! I'll admit this was one of my favorites since I'm obsessed with beauty products and will probably splurge on half of these haha.

Everyday Flannel

Top: H&M // Jeans: J. Crew // Sunglasses: Chanel Pilot Signature // Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs // Lips: Bobbi Brown Art Stick in "Rich Nude" // Boots: Kenneth Cole

Oh finals week, how I hate you. In the beginning of the semester, I remember feeling emotional because this is my senior year but now I realize how annoying school can be and the fact that I've been doing this for years haha. I'm sure in May when I'm walking across stage, I'm going to be feeling different.

Lately I've been living in cozy pieces like this flannel shirt that I got from H&M. I shot these photos a few weeks back and miss the beautiful fall weather we were having back then. Just look at those leaves! Ugh. Why can't we just skip winter and continue with fall instead? I always feel like it's the shortest season. Anyways, flannel is perfect for winter too and I can see myself wearing this with a black pencil skirt, some heels, and a statement necklace for all the holiday parties that's happening this month.

Well, back to studying now. Good luck to everyone with their finals!

#BloggerBoss: 5 Ways That I Improved My Blog in 2016

Year after year, my goal with the blog is to always improve it. I've always believed that improvement doesn't have to mean a dramatic difference and that small changes can add up over time. This proved to be true this past year when I really took my blog to the next level and the results paid off! I was able to create some great content, collaborate with some incredible companies, and even got local media coverage! Here's what really worked for me and you should try for your blogs as well:

1. Invested In a Better Lens

When you're a fashion and lifestyle blogger who's constantly sharing photos online, great photography is key. While I was satisfied with my Canon T3i, I wanted my photos to look more professional and stand out so I did some research and invested in a better lens which made all the difference. I knew it was working when I started getting collaboration emails and brands would compliment me on my photos! Yes, buying a lens can be pricey but it pays off more than you know.

2. Created An Instagram Theme

Creating a cohesive and eye-catching theme to my Instagram feed has been something that I've been working on for a long time. Maybe since last Christmas! I just don't know how people do it and I was putting a lot of pressure on myself because of it. Yet once I started editing every photo the same way and using a filter, my feed started looking more neat and organized. I knew I was doing something right when I got accepted into RewardStyle which is known for being more likely to accept bloggers with beautiful themes. While I still have a long way to go, at least I'm one step closer.

3. Posted Less, But Better

If you look at my posts from 2015, you'll notice that I was posting every month 15 times or more. It can be difficult creating good content when you're trying to post that much so I decided in 2016 to post less, but better. What do I mean by better? Better photography, more interesting content, and most importantly: better results when it involves engagement. I stopped posting just for the sake of posting and even during the months where I posted very little, I was still getting great traffic. Sometimes less can be more!

4. Created Educational Content

While outfit posts are great and all, sometimes your audience can get bored of it because they're not always learning something from it. That's where educational content (like my #BloggerBoss series!) comes in. It can bring in more traffic to your blog and can target other types of audiences. Plus you'll be seen as an expert in something!

5. Stopped Focusing On The Number of Followers

I've learned over the years that sometimes the best accounts have few followers and the worst accounts have tons of followers! At the end of the day, it's all about the value of your content and engaging with the followers that you already have. So don't stress over the number of followers! Think of it this way: would you rather have 10 followers that actually like your content or hundreds that don't even engage with you?

Hope these tips helped! Any ideas on what I should cover next for my #BloggerBoss series? Let me know below.

Holidays 2016 Gift Guide: For The #GirlBoss

Can you believe Christmas is almost here?! Time is just flying by! I know we're all doing some last minute shopping here so I thought I'd include one of my favorite gift guides which is for the #girlboss! I made sure that all of these gifts are practical yet stylish cause who wants to receive boring stuff on Christmas? Plus cute things always make me want to use them more! haha. Here's what I'm loving:

Black Blazer - Every #GirlBoss needs a professional black blazer am I right? She can wear it to the office, lunch meetings, and even pair it with some jeans for a casual look on the weekends.

Tote - Blush pink and gold are always a hit in my book, plus there's enough room to store your laptop in there as well! I also linked some more budget-friendly options below.

Portable Charger - Whether I'm updating social media or checking my emails, I'm constantly on my phone 24/7 and desperately need a portable charger that I can carry wherever I go. I love this evil eye one but also this floral one that also comes with a matching case from Sonix.

Laptop Sleeve - I'm obsessed with this one from Kate Spade which has a cute saying on it and will keep your laptop protected in your bag.

Business Card Holder - Another Kate Spade find in a cute polka dot pattern which will make it easy to find in your bag and stores all your important business cards.

Office Supplies - It can get hard to find stylish office supplies but I love these monogram marble notebooks and how cute are these pens from!

Presentation Style With Placement

Blazer: Rag & Bone via Placement Boutique // Clutch: Placement Boutique // Shirt: Express // Jeans: J. Crew // Necklace: J. Crew // Shoes: Sam Edelman // Lipstick: Maybelline "Divine Wine"

Happy Monday! I know the next few weeks are going to be painful to say the least since we're nearing the end of the semester and finals are coming up. On top of it, all those presentations ugh. I have three coming up this week and it's hard finding professional clothes to wear that are stylish and unique. But that's where Placement boutique comes in! They're a local boutique that's located in Eastview Mall over in Victor, NY and I'm shocked by all the brands that they carry! Sadly, Rochester is lacking in the designer brands department so it's nice to go to a place where they have so many brands that I used to be able to only find online. I'm talking Cupcakes & Cashmere, Vince, and even Sara Happ products!

If you've been following me on Instagram then you would've already seen my favorites that I picked out from the boutique last week which includes holiday party dresses, coats, and beautiful accessories. They were kind enough to lend me this beautiful Rag & Bone blazer (check out the collar details!) and blue clutch that says "Mine All Mine" on it! I can totally picture myself wearing this to presentations and then heading to dinner to celebrate the end of the semester later on that day. While boutiques have the stigma that they're "expensive", that's not the case with Placement which wasn't intimidating at all and had a variety of clothes for budgets of all kinds. While this blazer is an investment piece, the clutch is actually $20!

The best part is that they're having a pop-up shop over at St. John Fisher College (aka the school I go to) during free period so if you're a student, make sure to stop by and check out their selection! I'll be there procrastinating studying and talking fashion so it'll be fun!

Holiday Glamour With Tobi

Dress: c/o Tobi // Necklace: J. Crew // Shoes: Sam Edelman // Lips: Mac "Russian Red" // Clutch: TJ Maxx

For my second look with Tobi, I wanted to go with something a little more glamorous and right when I saw this "Neverland" dress I knew I had to have it. One of my favorite colors is teal and sadly I don't own too many teal pieces in my closet cause I can never find anything in that color! Strange right? Plus the high-low hemline makes this dress look so unique. It's perfect for fancy holiday parties or even a winter wedding! I paired it with my favorite statement necklace for some sparkle, some leopard heels, and a red lip. The best part is that it's on FINAL sale for $38 so make sure to get it before it's sold out for good. They also have it in a navy blue which is just as pretty! Oh and did I mention they always have free shipping? Yup, the deal couldn't be more perfect.

Happy shopping!

Winter White

Top: Ralph Lauren // Skirt: c/o Romwe // Clutch: TJ Maxx

The Monday after break is always the hardest isn't it? I'm totally not ready for two more weeks of school and finals but what can ya do. In the meantime, I'm working on more collaborations and this time it's with Romwe! They sent this white lace up skirt which is perfect to wear all year long but especially during the winter. I'm not one of those people that believes that you can't wear white after labor day. It's such an old fashioned rule and white looks even better during the winter cause it's so unexpected.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get a lot of good shots of the outfit because the weather has been awful lately and I just wasn't feeling how my face looks haha. It's just one of those days! I decided to pair it with black tights and a black turtleneck so the focus of the outfit would be on the skirt. I love the lace up detail and it would look perfect for a classy dinner or other special occasion. The one bad thing I have to say about the skirt is that it's not fully lined in the back and runs small so make sure to size up. While I love Romwe's large variety of clothes and affordable prices, I was a bit disappointed with the skirt's quality but if you wear a slip underneath it'll look much better.
