How to Get Glowing Skin For the Holidays | 2 comments:

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. All opinions are mine alone. #HolidayGlow #CollectiveBias

If there's one season that I hate, it's winter. Living in upstate New York, winters are brutal and never seem to end. If that wasn't bad enough, my skin always seems to suffer the most around this time of year. I already have dry skin but it gets worse when it's exposed to constant wind and freezing temperatures. Flakiness, dullness, and dry patches...no one wants that kind of beauty look for the holidays! That's why I thought this would be the perfect time to share how I get glowing skin that will make you look instantly healthy and hopefully makes the winter time a little less annoying.

Step 1: Exfoliate

Wintertime is when our skin is the driest which leads to dead skin and the look of dullness. In order to get rid of this, use a body scrub to exfoliate and make sure to do this before shaving! I start by adding water to the scrub and gently rubbing it into wet skin in a circular motion. Then when I'm done scrubbing, I'll wash it off (this takes a while since there's so many beads haha) and move on to the next step. I recommend doing this while showering since it can get messy and use a scrub with an oil-base which won't dry out your skin and helps the razor slide over your skin easier when it's time to shave.

Step 2: Shaving with Venus Swirl

I personally hate shaving...it's just so time-consuming and I always seem to cut my legs, no matter how careful I am! Over the years, I've discovered that it's not about how you shave but what you use to shave. The trick is to finding a razor that's flexible enough to adjust to every curve and has good quality blades so you end up with smooth skin every time. I recently discovered Venus Swirl which is amazing for shaving since it has a contouring flexiball which makes it perfect to shave in areas such as the back of your knee or ankles. Use some shaving cream or even hair conditioner on your legs and work your way up from ankle to knee.

Step 3: Moisturize with Olay Ultra Moisture Body Wash (available in warehouse)

In order to get great skin all over, it's necessary to have a body wash that's gentle enough so that it won't strip the body of it's natural oils and helps prevent dry skin. One of my favorite body washes (that also smells yummy!) is Olay Ultra Moisture body wash which has a rich lather, contains shea butter, and the best part is that I don't have to moisturize after my shower which saves time in the mornings!

Step 4: Glowing Makeup

The first three steps really focused on getting glowing skin on your body so here's the finishing touch: glowing makeup for your face! I personally love shimmery makeup but you never want to go overboard since you'll end up looking like a disco ball (unless that's the look you want to go for haha). I like to keep it simple with some liquid highlighter, blush with a little bit of shimmer, and a semi-matte lipstick.

I start by applying blush on the apples of my cheeks with an angled blush brush and then the highlighter. I prefer to use liquid highlighter since it's more pigmented and really makes your skin glowy. I simply dab it onto the tops of my cheeks with my fingers and remember, a little goes a long way with this stuff! Complete the look with some lipstick in a soft petal pink shade that's going to give you some color but also makes your lips look plump and moisturized.

That's it! Glowing skin that's perfect for the office during the day and holiday parties at night. You can find products such as Venus Swirl and Olay Ultra Moisture Body Wash at your nearest Costco's warehouse section. Ever since Costco opened up in Rochester, I've been a big fan of how you can easily find everything that you need, all in one place especially when it comes to beauty products. They have a wide variety of trusted brands that are sold in bulk so you won't have to constantly go in store every couple of weeks for a new one (my biggest pet peeve!) and who has time for that anyways around the holidays? Not this college girl!

Gift Guide: For The Traveler | 2 comments:

Hey ladies! I hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving and scored some awesome deals on Black Friday. I personally took advantage of the sales online since I'm totally not one for all those crowds (headache much?) and waiting in lines. I'm also not one to rush holidays so I thought it would be appropriate to start posting some gift guides after Thanksgiving is over and it's officially the Christmas season. So without further ado (that was so dorky but I'm totally writing this at 11pm after a long, exhausting day in retail) here's my first gift guide for the traveler! Everyone knows at least one person in their lives who's obsessed with traveling and always makes you green with envy whenever they come back from an awesome trip. I tried to include a good mix of stuff that's both useful for traveling and shows that traveling can actually be done in style! Come on, who doesn't want to look good when they're getting off of a long flight?

The Gift of Memory | 1 comment:

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and it's advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #GiftingAMemory #CollectiveBias

My first job after I graduated high school was at a perfume shop at our local mall. Although I knew nothing about perfume when I first started the job, after some time I quickly realized that the sense of smell is one of the most powerful forms of triggering a memory. That's why I always recommend to people that fragrance can be one of the best gifts to give to someone who's close to you.

I always like to do my Christmas shopping early so I can get it out of the way but when it comes to finding a gift for my best friend, it can take forever. What do you give to someone who has everything? A memory.

My best friend is obsessed with Katy Perry and has dragged me to countless concerts of hers and even made me watch the Katy Perry movie with her...at least 10 times. Of course, I love my best friend and don't mind doing these things if it makes her happy (okay, like 99% of the time I don't mind haha). As annoying as some of these things were, I have to admit we've developed some great memories through them (such as losing my flip flop during a concert. How is that possible? I don't know either) and it's made our friendship even stronger. That's why I knew I found the perfect gift for her when I found the Katy Perry Killer Queen Gift Set

From the pretty shaped bottle that a fashionista like my best friend will love to decorate her vanity with, to the body lotion and body wash that she can take everywhere, COTY fragrance gift sets make Christmas shopping so much easier.

I found the Katy Perry gift set at Wal-Mart but COTY fragrance gift sets are also available in other celebrity and brand name favorites for both men and women. It's a great gift that us college girls can actually afford without breaking the bank, find at places near our college (everyone has a Wal-Mart near their school am I right?), plus it's actually a meaningful gift. Sounds perfect to me.

5 Quick Ways to Feel Better On a Sick Day | No comments:

It's that time of year again...cold season, yuck. My goal every fall/winter is to not catch a cold but the worst ones always seem to find me at the most inconvenient times. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'll have a cold right around finals! It's almost like my secret good luck charm haha. One of the many things that sucks about being an adult is that you don't always get to take days off from school or work because you're sick so you gotta find some quick ways to feel better fast. Here's some of my tips that work like a charm and help you to feel better in no time so you can go back to working on that group project that you hate so much (or is that just me?)

1.) Drink Some Tea

I personally hate hot drinks (way too dangerous for me when I'm so clumsy) but I'll admit they have a soothing effect when you're sick. I especially love some good old tea that's much easier to make than coffee. Just put a teabag in some hot water and go. As for energy, I've noticed peppermint tea works just as well as coffee and makes me feel alert and focused without the jittery feeling.

2.) Put On Some Lipstick & Pull Yourself Together

We all look and feel like...well not like our usual selves when we're sick so doing little things like putting on some lipstick makes me feel put-together and shows people that hey, just because I'm sick doesn't mean I'm not fabulous. Or maybe I just want to not look like death when I'm sitting next to the hot guy in class. Either one works.

3.) Ponchos. Enough said.

If you don't already own a poncho, get off the computer and buy yourself one right now. I linked a couple of my favorites at the end of this post! Seriously, it's like walking around in a blanket all day and still being socially acceptable. GO GET ONE.

4.) Do Something Relaxing

Make sure to dedicate an hour or two to yourself when you're sick. I find that stress makes colds even worse and they seem to last longer. I love to relax by taking a bubble bath, writing for the blog, or painting my nails with fun colors to brighten up my mood.

5.) The Right Medicine

We all know that there's no cure for the common cold, but there's no reason why you should be suffering. If you want to shorten your cold and get some quick relief so you can go on with your day, I recommend: Cold-EEZE® Cold Remedy Plus Natural Multi-Symptom Relief Cold & Flu QuickMelts®. It's an over the counter medicine that contains active ingredients that helps relieve symptoms such as cough, congestion, and my least favorite - sore throat, ugh. The best part is that the QuickMelts® dissolves quickly into your mouth (for all you science majors, it releases zinc ions so it can shorten the cold!) without needing water so you can easily take it whenever you want whether it's in class or at work.

Hope this post helps you lovelies feel better the next time that you're sick!

Thanksgiving Inspiration | 4 comments:

Crazy to think that Thanksgiving is right around the corner and then Christmas and basically the year is ending! Why does the end of the year always go by so fast? *sighs*. Of course, my mind is always on fashion and what to wear to every special occasion so I thought I should talk about some of my favorite things for a chic Thanksgiving look. I went with a rich color palette of emerald greens, browns, and navy blues. If you're going for a more casual look (totally me), then I suggest a plaid flannel shirt or a cozy poncho to keep you warm. If you feel like dressing up but not going overboard, then how about that chic turtleneck sweater dress. That color is to die for and looks flattering on so many different skin tones! My favorite piece from this set has to be the coordinates necklace which I thought would be fitting since everyone's going back home for Thanksgiving.

What are you planning on wearing? Let's talk fashion!

The Perfect Christmas Gift With Flash&Go | No comments:

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and it's advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #GiftSilkn #CollectiveBias

If I had to choose one thing that really annoys me in life (there's a lot) it would be body hair. I mean the amount of time that's spent removing it is just ridiculous! Who wants to do that for the rest of their life? And buying razors or scheduling appointments to get a wax? Ugh! It's expensive, time-consuming, and painful. That's why I've always been interested in laser hair removal even though I always assumed I wouldn't be able to do it while I'm in college (girl I need to save money and spend it on other important stuff like... clothes haha). As luck would have it, I would finally be able to find a product that is the answer to all my problems: Flash&Go. Now you can easily do laser hair removal at home and actually get permanent results!

Now I know it sounds too good to be true but with it's light technology, you can easily see permanent results in a couple months. So far I've done the first treatment and was surprised to feel no pain at all, just some tingling afterwards that went away quickly. You do each treatment in 2 week intervals and typically see results on your 3rd or 4th treatment.

Now I know for a fact that hair removal is a big problem for everyone, that's why I think it's such a perfect Christmas gift! It makes people's lives easier and who doesn't want that? Plus it's so much more affordable to actually buy Flash&Go than laser hair removal treatments at a spa.

So go ahead and #treatyoself (yes I just used that hashtag haha, don't judge) and someone else with Flash&Go. I found myn at Bed, Bath & Beyond but it's also sold at Kohl's. The best part is once you bought it, go to keepongifting.com to receive a $25 gift card and a chance to win a trip to Aruba. Oh and did I mention you can redeem this card up to 3 times which means you get $75 in total to spend at Bed, Bath & Beyond or Kohl's? How awesome is that?!

Thanks for reading and I hope this makes your Christmas shopping a little bit easier!

Turtleneck Weather | 1 comment:

Top: J. Crew Factory // Jeans: Hollister // Necklace: J. Crew Factory // Hat: H&M, old (similar) // Shoes: c/o Marley Lilly, sold out (similar) // Lips: Mac Velvet Teddy // Lip Liner: Mac Spice // Bag: Rebecca Minkoff

Ahh the turtleneck sweater. A trend that you don't see very often these days. It has the stigma that it's going to suffocate you and 90% of the ones that I usually find, do. But it's just so stylish and keeps you so warm! I was determined to find one that would be perfect and I finally found it. This one is super soft, cozy, and the neck part is a bit looser compared to other turtlenecks so it doesn't feel like you're dying haha. It's no surprise that it's from my go-to store aka J. Crew. I swear my dream collaboration would be with that store. Talk about blogger heaven!

I also decided to take out my favorite Marley Lilly monogrammed boots for a spin that are the most comfortable OTK boots I've ever worn. For some reason, most boots are uncomfortable on me and after an hour, I just wanna take them off but not with these. They just feel so light on my feet! Plus how many people have monogrammed OTK boots? So unique.

Formal Dresses With PickeDresses | No comments:

As the holidays are approaching, there's many occasions to wear beautiful dresses. There's Christmas, New Year's, and let's not forget high school girls who are getting a headstart on finding the perfect dress for prom! From a long gown to a short, sassy number, one of the places that I've recently discovered for evening dresses is PickeDresses.com. They are an online dress shop based in Canada that has an endless variety of beautiful dresses for affordable prices (I know, so hard to find these days!) and also has international shipping to most countries.

Now I know some people are hesitant to order an evening dress online, but that's what I did for both my junior prom and senior ball and I couldn't recommend it enough! It was pretty much the only way to make sure that I would have a unique dress plus many online shops such as PickeDresses.com has a return policy just in case it doesn't fit or you're not happy with it.

Here are some of my favorites from their Prom Dresses 2016 collection:

Personally I'm not someone who likes to show a lot of skin but I'm obsessed with the sheer fabric and embroidery on this one. Plus the Tiffany blue color is gorgeous and defiantly stands out from the crowd.

This one's perfect for the holidays! The red lace and corset style makes it look so much more expensive than it is. Plus it's sexy without revealing too much.

Such an elegant dress and looks flattering on almost everyone because of the royal blue color and the mermaid style which accentuates curves and gives that "old-Hollywood" look that I adore.

I hope this post helped some of you gals who are on the hunt for that perfect dress that's unique and will make you stand out at your next event. Let me know which ones are your favorites!

November Style Inspiration | No comments:

Seriously, where did October go? Every year, I'm sad that fall goes by so quickly while winter seems to be the longest season ever. That's why I'm trying to enjoy every minute of fall before it goes away. Lately I've been inspired to wear some darker, moody colors such as that Burberry trench coat (if only I had the funds!) which would go perfect with some black skinny jeans and leopard print booties. As for the top, there's just something so chic about a short sleeve sweater especially during those crazy fall days where it's chilly in the mornings but warm by the time it's 12pm. Lastly, I fell in love with this "nomad" crossbody from dare I say it...Coach?! I know, I know the brand isn't as trendy as it used to be but they're making a comeback! Plus I can't resist a bag that perfectly shows my love for travel.

Hat: Target // Shirt: LC Runway by Lauren Conrad, sold out (similar) // Pants: Guess, old (similar) // Shoes: Marshalls, old (similar) // Bag: Rebecca Minkoff // Lips: Mac "Velvet Teddy" // Liner: Mac "Spice"

When it comes to my personal style, I'm all over the place. There's just so much I love about fashion and can never decide on just one kind of style. One thing's for sure, I love adding a girly touch to all of my outfits. This outfit is a great example of how you can turn something sporty into something more feminine. I'm a huge fan of hats and when I saw this one at Target, I immediately knew I had to have it. Just look at those pearls! So unique. It was actually on clearance for $3 yet online it still seems to be full price so check in stores! (P.S. no my hair didn't grow over night, these pics were taken a while ago! haha)

In order to make it more feminine, I wore my new LC Runway sweater with lace shoulders that I also scored on sale at Kohl's #winning. Defiantly check stores for this one too since it seems to be sold out online! To complete the look, I went with some maroon jeans and my trusty Rebecca Minkoff bag. The look turned out to be patriotic, sporty, and girly without being over the top.

Thanks for reading and have a nice weekend everyone!

Business Chic | 1 comment:

Trench Coat: Ivanka Trump, old (similar) (similar) // Blouse: Ralph Lauren // Skirt: BCBG, old (similar) (similar) // Flats: BCBG, old (similar) (similar) // Purse: Michael Kors, old (similar)

Hey ladies, I hope everyone had a fun Halloween! I spent Halloween day at Rochester's first social media conference called Upstate Social Sessions. Although some might think that spending hours sitting down and listening to a bunch of speakers would be boring, it was actually enjoyable! I did tons of networking, was live-tweeting for 2 accounts (see what I had to say on Twitter @Ruya_Kirac), and came home inspired from the great advice. Us bloggers and social media lovers, always go through the stigma that society has which is "why blog? what's the point? Social media isn't a real career". Especially in a place like Rochester where social media isn't a big deal yet, it was refreshing and inspiring to be in a room filled with people that don't believe in that stigma and actually tak me seriously. I haven't felt this inspired since my last conference which was HerCampus.com's Her Conference

Since there was tons of professionals at the event, I decided to dress more business-like but with a little bit of fashion thrown into it. When it comes to business clothes, I prefer solid colors and keeping it simple with a white button down and a black skirt. Of course, I don't recommend wearing a leather skirt to a job interview anytime soon but for an event like this, it worked. Plus the lights were dim majority of the time haha. I completed the look with my trusty pastel pink trench coat (cause nothing says business like pink) and a white bag since oddly enough, I don't own a black bag. I've never found one that I liked enough, any recommendations?
