Off to London & Paris!

Hey ladies! Today's the day I finally achieve my dream of visiting London and Paris! I can't even explain how excited I am and how long I've been waiting for this day. I remember when I started counting down from 200 days! haha. Since I'm sure I won't always have a good wi-fi connection while there, I decided to blog again when I come back from the trip. Depending on the jet lag and time difference, I'll try to post again next Tuesday or Wednesday! Of course, I'll post a few pics on Instagram just to keep you guys updated on what I'm doing but other than that my goal is to really focus on having fun in these cities. Sometimes it's nice to just step away from the computer and phone and enjoy the moment instead of just trying to document every minute of it for the blog. One of the perks of traveling is that when you come back home, you just feel so invigorated and inspired so I'm sure I'll come back with some great things to talk about!

See you soon! In the meantime, follow me on Instagram @ruyakiraccc

Solvaderm Ace-Ferulic Rejuvenating Serum

Another day, another product to review. This time I was fortunate enough to get my hands on Solvaderm's Rejuvenating Serum which promises to protect the skin from UV damage and fight the signs of photo aging. This product is specifically targeted towards people who are suffering from hyper pigmentation, sun damage, and premature skin aging. Overall, it's supposed to dramatically improve the skin's appearance, texture, and tone.

The timing of this review is perfect since summer's almost here and the chances of getting skin damage is much higher. I'll admit, the past couple summers I've acquired a bit of sun damage since some days I completely forgot to apply sunscreen. As a result, I've ended up with quite a large amount of freckles and dark spots *yikes*.

The first time I tried this serum, I was surprised at how easily it soaked into the skin and didn't leave it greasy. That's one of the things that I hate about serums, most of them leave my skin oily and it takes hours to soak into the skin. I didn't notice any differences with my skin until day six when I noticed a sun spot on my forehead was getting lighter. Finally! I've tried many different products to lighten that specific spot on my forehead yet nothing seemed to work, other than this. Hopefully in a couple weeks, some of the damage on my face will be gone. Other than this change, I've noticed this product is a great moisturizer and gives your skin a nice glow in seconds. Highly recommend this for people with dry, patchy skin who needs some life back into their skin!

Overall, I'm impressed with the product and will continue to use it to see better results. If you'd like to try out this product for yourself, head over to You'll also be able to get free shipping automatically so it's worth a try!

Hope you enjoyed this post,

Wedding Season

Top: I Heart Ronson via JCPenny (similar) // Skirt: Forever 21 (similar) // Earrings: J. Crew (similar) // Clutch: Marilyn Monroe (similar 1) (similar 2) // Shoes: Nine West (similar and on sale!) // Sunglasses: Ray-Ban

Happy Friday everyone! I kept forgetting to post this outfit up but I actually wore this last weekend to a bridal shower. As some of you may know, I'm Turkish and weddings are a big part of our culture haha. A typical Turkish wedding consists of three parts: the engagement party, bridal shower, and then the big wedding. So for most bridal showers, it takes place in a big party room (in this case at a hotel) and we all dress to impress and do fun things like henna. Since it was so warm last weekend, I decided to go with a crop top and my favorite pencil skirt from Forever 21 that was under $20! Talk about a steal.

Of course, the most exciting part about this outfit is my Marilyn Monroe clutch from Istanbul. I love how it's black and white so it goes with a lot of outfits and I always seem to pull it out for special occasions. Unfortunately I can't seem to find the exact one from any US retailers anywhere but I did link some Marilyn Monroe ones from Etsy.

Thanks for reading! What are you wearing for wedding season?

4 Ways to Ease Flight Anxiety

In this day and age, anxiety over flying is no joke. Especially with the way the media is televising airplane crashes and hijacking, can you really blame a person for being scared of flying? Although I'm no stranger to flying and have been doing it frequently since I was a little kid, for the first time ever these past couple of months I realized that I was scared of my upcoming trip to Europe. All those horror stories and news coverage had gotten to my head and I was suddenly asking myself "what did I get myself into?!". Well, guess what? I'm going on a plane next week and even though I'm still scared, I know for a fact that I'm not going to let something like anxiety get in the way of an awesome trip. Neither should you! So here are 5 methods to combating anxiety that also works well for more specific situations such as flying.

Focus On the Good - Train your mind to see the good in these kinds of situations. Traveling should be exciting and adventurous and in order to experience that, you have to go through a flight. But who cares when you have so many amazing things to do afterwards! Think of all the sites you're going to visit, the photos you'll take, and the stories you'll be able to tell your friends when you get back. Go as far as bringing a notepad and pen with you and write down all these good things so you can go back and look at it whenever you're feeling anxious.

Distract Yourself - Whenever I feel nervous, it's usually because I have time to let my mind wander and over-think. You can avoid this from happening by distracting yourself with comforting things such as watching your favorite movie or reading a good book. Just make sure to bring a lot of distractions with you if it's a long flight!

Mentally Practice - The day before the flight, sit in a comfortable spot in your home and close your eyes. Imagine yourself on the plane and everything going smoothly. Run through the entire process in your head from going through security to arriving safely at your destination. I find that the more I think positively about this scenario, the more calm I feel when it's time to actually go through with it.

Breathing and Counting -Typically when a person is anxious about something, they're also not breathing correctly. Yet I found that whenever I began concentrating on my breathing, I get even more nervous! In order to combat this problem, I typically count in my head all the way to a 100. Not only does it bore the heck out of me but it slowly makes you relax, breathe normal again, and eases tense muscles.

When all else fails, write down this quote and keep it with you at your worse times: "You must do everything that frightens you. Everything. I'm not talking about risking your life, but everything else. Think about fear, decide right now how you're going to deal with fear, because fear is going to be the great issue in your life, I promise you. Fear will be the fuel for all your success, and the root cause of all your failures, and the underlying dilemma in every story you tell yourself about yourself. And the only chance you'll have against fear? Follow it. Steer by it. Don't think of fear as the villain, think of fear as your pathfinder..."

I hope this post helps in some sort of way! Thanks for reading,

What to Wear While Traveling

I admit, I'm a planner. I just love when everything is organized and thought of ahead of time. One of the things that I'm obsessed with is planning my outfits. When it comes to packing for my upcoming trip to Europe, I found that it was difficult to plan outfits that are both stylish and comfortable enough for long days of sight-seeing. I don't want to look like a tourist but at the same time, I don't want to be suffering in annoying clothes and shoes. Luckily, I found a balance and thought I'd share some examples of outfits that work perfectly for all sorts of trips this summer. The key is to bring pieces that will mix and match and work with more than one outfit. Trust me, less is more! Plus you'll have more room in your carry-on for new stuff that you bought!

One summer I worked at the airport and I always noticed that the most stylish people wore the most simplest of outfits that made a statement. Stick with neutrals and make sure to layer since planes are usually freezing. Also, bring a hat and sunglasses as a great way to cover up messy hair and the bags under your eyes from not being able to sleep on the plane...or is that just me? haha.

For a long day of sight-seeing, being comfortable is important. I usually see tourists wearing sneakers but I thought espadrilles from the other outfit work just as well. Depending on the weather, a good trench coat or jacket is also needed along with a small crossbody that fits all the essentials. I also included the hat again since let's face it, who feels like doing their hair while on vacation? Oh and if the weather is warm enough, opt for some high-waisted shorts to help suck in that bloated belly from all the delicious foods you'll be eating! Remember, calories don't count when you're on vacation!

The one thing that you probably shouldn't pack if you're traveling for a while is a pair of dangerously high heels. Opt for some wedges instead that will be much more comfortable during evening events. I decided to re-use the lace top and cross-body again since they just work so well with multiple outfits. I also decided to add some fancy accessories which is easy to pack and can easily take your outfit from day to night. When in doubt, make sure to have some red lipstick on you!

Hope you enjoyed this post!

NeoStrata Foaming Glycolic Wash

Hey ladies! I'm excited to talk about this new product that I'm in obsessing over lately from NeoStrata which is their Foaming Glycolic Wash. I've never actually heard of this brand before but with one quick Google search, I discovered that it's quite popular in various countries! So, of course I had to test it out. Lately, I've been noticing that my skin has been looking harsh from the bipolar weather and slowly recovering from the stress of finals. I needed something that would clear up my skin as quickly as possible and was lucky enough to test out this new product. This isn't my first time using a face wash with Glycolic acid in it but for those that are new to it, it's a type of chemical that specifically smooths skin texture, unclogs pores, and stimulates cell renewal. It's great for all ages but I highly recommend it for people looking for anti-aging products!

Based on what's written on the bottle, it's soap-free, dye-free, and pH balanced along with having a high concentration of Glycolic acid (18% to be exact!). For first time users of Glycolic acid, it might be a bit too harsh so perhaps try a product with a lower level to see how your skin reacts before trying this one. It also contains 2% Lactobionic acid which is what stimulates the cell renewal process. Since it's high-strength, it is recommended to use sunscreen if you're going to head out after using this product. Personally I didn't have any problems with that since I always moisturize after washing my face and it contains sunscreen in it.

Anyways, let's get to the results. The directions say to use it twice a day which I thought was a bit overwhelming since I'm used to using face wash once a day. I assumed that I would have to moisturize more often because of this, but the wash didn't dry out my skin and I only had to use toner. Fine by me, one less thing to do in the mornings! haha. I noticed from the very first time that I used it, that it made my skin feel refreshed and looked brighter. Without makeup, I normally have some red patches on my nose yet it seemed to look lighter after my first use! As for the packaging, I love the fact that the bottle has a pump which makes it so much easier to use.

After using this for 5 days, the biggest changes was that some of the tiny pimples on my forehead and nose along with my sun spots was fading. In my experience, sun spots are always the hardest to get rid of especially if you got them a while back. I've tried all sorts of products specifically for sun spots but the quickest results I've seen is with this product. Totally impressed! Overall, my skin looked much healthier and I had a more even skin tone. The results seemed to last even when I stopped using the product for a few days to see if there was a difference. I'm looking forward to seeing what other changes my skin will experience after a couple of weeks of use.

If you would like to purchase the face wash, head over to and buy the 3.4 oz (the one pictured above) for $40. Some would say that the price is a bit steep but compared to other high end brands, I actually don't think it's too bad since the results are worth it.

Hope you enjoyed this post,

Cheap & Chic: Balmain for H&M

H&M has finally revealed their next designer collaboration and I'll admit, I was shocked when I heard it was Balmain. Like...seriously?! When I think of Balmain, I think of the 90's and it's more recent revival with it's creative director, Olivier Rousteing. Not H&M. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that chain stores are teaming up with luxury brands! I'm all for affordable when it comes to fashion. It's just my question is can Balmain create a more affordable line for H&M without losing all the things that make the label famous? It also raises the question of which luxury brands should do collaborations with chain stores and which ones shouldn't. For example, would Chanel taint it's image if it did a collab with H&M or would it be praised?

Either way, I know for sure that quality is going to be the first thing that's sacrificed in this scenario. Hopefully nothing else! Judging from the picture, it doesn't look too bad so far. I'm already obsessed with that outfit that Jordan Dunn is wearing but I'm 100% sure everything is going to be sold out the minute that it's released. *sighs*

Unfortunately, the wait will be quite long as well since the collection is being released worldwide on Nov 5, 2015.

What do you think of this collaboration? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

14-Day Skinny Teatox

When it comes to health and weight loss, I'm usually not one for "get skinny quick" schemes. Ever since I started attending college, I've been trying to eat clean and work out and although some days is harder than others, I've gotten used to the routine and have seen success with it. Yet when I got the opportunity to review Skinny Teatox and heard about it's natural ingredients and benefits, I decided to take the chance and see if it really works or if it's just another gimmick.

Some background about Skinny Teatox is that it's 100% natural, gluten, preservative, chemical, and GMO free. The main benefits are weight loss, increased energy, and a faster metabolism. Skinny Teatox should be used in combination with a healthy diet and exercise routine. What stood out to me in the brochure, is that they included tips to eating healthy and really seemed to promote the idea of this being a supplement and not a replacement for dieting and fitness. You don't see that too often!

How it Works

When ordering the Skinny Teatox, you receive the daytime tea, evening tea, and the strawberry tea infuser (so cute!). For 14 days, you drink the daytime tea in the morning or afternoon since it's supposed to give you a steady and constant supply of energy throughout the day. The evening tea is obviously for the nighttime and is meant to cleanse the body and detoxify. This means that you'll be going to the bathroom throughout the night or early morning since it's flushing out your digestive tract of toxins! Note: these teas come in teabags and are meant to be taken every other day, starting with day 1 in the evening.

My Results

Mind you, this is my first weight loss detox so I didn't know what I was getting myself into and on top of it I hate tea so I wasn't sure if I would even last long but for the sake of the review I was deteremined. I just want to remind everyone that I'm not a doctor and that if you're going to try this product, remember that you're taking it at your own risk! Now that's out of the way...

I'm on day four right now and I'll admit the first four days has been the hardest for me since I didn't find the taste of the tea appealing and kept going to the bathroom throughout the night (I know, TMI). I didn't notice any major changes but I did notice I was feeling more energized in the late afternoons when I'm usually tired from work around that time. I also noticed a slight decrease in my appetite and less cravings for salty foods which is my weakness!

I'll be sure to make a follow-up post to keep you updated about my results but for now it's too early to tell if I've lost weight from it or not. Although I do think it's great that I finally have more energy! Coffee doesn't seem to do the trick for me and if I drink more than one cup it makes me jittery yet this tea doesn't which is a major plus! Hopefully I'll see bigger results soon. In the meantime, if you'd like to try out the product for yourself visit Skinny Teatox and order the 14 day package.

Navy Blue + White

Top: Hollister (similar 1) (similar 2) (similar 3) // Shorts: Hollister // Purse: Vince Camuto (similar) // Sandals: Express (similar) // Sunglasses: Ray-Ban // Bracelet: Rocksbox (use the code sweetshortandstylishxoxo to get the first month free!)

One of my favorite color combinations for warm weather is navy blue and white. The colors just look so flattering together and is a great go-to for when you don't have much time to pull together an outfit. Plus navy blue is a great alternative to black during the warmer months! I got this Hollister shirt a few weeks ago and it's already on repeat in my closet. It's linen so it's perfect for warm weather and the cold-shoulder style gives it a bohemian feel. Sadly, it's sold out online but I linked a couple similar ones. You might be able to find it stores so check it out. If you can even find anything with how poorly lit their stores are! haha. I know Hollister has a poor reputation in the fashion world but I'm one of those people that's willing to try anything as long as I think it looks good on me, so who cares where it's actually from ya know?

Unfortunately, these photos turned out horrible from the extreme amounts of sun we've been getting lately (not that I'm complaining!) and I have to make a note to myself to not take photos during the afternoon. These photos take me back to the beginning of my blogging days when I didn't know how to take good pictures at all!

My Second Rocksbox

Hey ladies! I just realized that I forgot to make a post about my Rocksbox from April since I was so busy with finals. I was much more satisfied with this Rocksbox than the first one I received in March. I think the reason for this is because I selected a few pieces to put on my wishlist on their website and I got sent one of the necklaces I wanted along with 2 other pieces that were similar to my picks. I highly recommend doing this if you haven't been liking anything that's been in the boxes lately.

My favorite piece was the Perry Street Scarlett Necklace which is absolutely gorgeous and totally my style. Here you can see me wearing it paired with a white blazer. It's perfect to wear for special occasions but also for adding a bit of glam to a casual outfit.

The other pieces of jewelry I got was the Gorjana Isla Ring and the Slate Crystal Chain Cuff which I wore recently in an outfit post here. Both pieces are high quality and pretty much go with every outfit I own!

If you'd like to recieve your first month of Rocksbox for free then make sure to use the code sweetshortandstylishxoxo

Summer Makeup: Nars Rikugien Lip Pencil

It's never too early to start thinking about summer and with the weather being in the upper 70's this week, that's all I've been thinking about lately. I decided to start taking out my favorite summer products and got reacquainted with my love for this Nars lip pencil in the shade Rikugien. I rarely hear about this shade so I thought a post dedicated to it would be a good idea! It really shouldn't even be called a lip pencil since it goes on more like a lipstick (and since you need a lip pencil for this look! haha). The texture is a bit dry and it's a part of the "satin" collection which might explain why it's considered a lip pencil so I recommend putting some lip balm on beforehand to prevent dryness.

The color is a gorgeous neutral rosey-bronze color that's not too brown and not too pink but something in between. I usually gravitate towards the rose shades which goes nicely with a tan during the summertime. What I love about this lip color is that it's light enough to go with a smokey eye but powerful enough to stand on it's own with a simple eye look. Overall, I prefer products that I can use everyday and actually get my money's worth and this is defiantly one of them.

Here's a link to it on Sephora!

Hope you enjoyed this post, what's your favorite products for the summer?

Why You Need to Start Traveling Now

I'm so excited to announce that my finals are finally over and that I can now start focusing on packing for my London and Paris trip in a couple of weeks. It's strange to think that I was so hesitant on signing up for this trip when now all I feel is excitement! Seriously, if you're contemplating on traveling someplace amazing, JUST GO DO IT! and here's why...

The Anticipation - Waiting for a trip is just as exciting as actually going on the trip itself. From figuring out what outfits to bring to buying mini travel products, half the fun is getting there! Bonus: you get to make all your friends jealous haha.

You'll Realize How Brave You Are - Now how could you possibly know how courageous you are if you don't start taking some chances? The benefits of traveling includes the growth of one's character and strength. You're not going to be the same person that you were before traveling. The traveling experience changes you for the better.

Travel Therapy - With travel, comes healing. I'm not gonna say it solves all your problems, but it makes you adopt a different perspective towards them. Oh and don't do that whole "travel to find yourself" thing cause it doesn't work. Instead, travel to remember who you've been all along.

You'll Always Be "Too Busy" - The biggest excuse I hear from people is "I'm too busy" to travel. Well, hate to break it to ya but you'll always be busy so ya might as well start traveling now.

"But I'm Too Broke!" - This was one of the reasons why I was so hesitant to go to Europe. I felt bad for spending so much money on a trip when I could use it towards something more useful. The thing is, you can't put a price on travel because you gain so much more than what you paid for.

Tomorrow Isn't Guaranteed - Cliche but true. If you don't travel now, then how are you so sure that you'll have the opportunity to travel again later on?

Honestly, there's so many reasons why you should travel and I couldn't fit all of them into one post but I hope some of these tips helped to motivate you! Thanks for reading.

The Best Perfumes for Mother's Day

Hey ladies! Mother's day is approaching which means most people are going to be buying their mom some perfume. Although I don't work at a perfume shop anymore, my love for perfume hasn't disappeared but only increased. So I thought I'd make a list of the ones that moms (including myn!) goes crazy for. Let's begin!

1.) Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue - I don't know why but it seems that at least 90% of women love Light Blue. It's been on the bestsellers list for years now! It's quite a safe choice since it's the perfect blend of light, airy, and a hint of citrus. It's a great fragrance for someone who doesn't want anything heavy and perfect for year-round use. When in doubt, go with this one.

2.) Chanel Coco Mademoiselle - There's nothing more timeless than Chanel. It is a bit heavier and spicy compared to the Light Blue, but much more long-lasting which is a hard combination to find! If you still find it too heavy but want to stick to the Chanel brand, then I recommend trying one of the Chanel Chance fragrances (all three are very light!).

3.) Clinique Happy - Another fragrance that everyone seems to like. It's perfect for the mom on the go, who wants an everyday fragrance. Much more citrus and fruity than the first two but still appropriate for a mom.

4.) Calvin Klein Euphoria - This is a much heavier fragrance but nonetheless fantastic with notes such as black orchid, mahogany, and pomegranate.

5.) Dior J'Adore - Another one on the bestsellers list. This is mature without being "old". It's not overpowering but it lasts all day with notes such as jasmine and rose. It's defiantly a luxurious perfume that's perfect as a gift especially with the unique shape of the bottle!

Hope you enjoyed this post! What are you buying for mother's day?

The High-Low Top

Top: Philosophy (sold out in mint but available in white and pink) // Jeans: Hollister & Co // Necklace: BCBGeneration // Bracelet: Rocksbox (use the code sweetshortandstylish to get the first month free!) // Watch: Target // Sunglasses: Ray-Ban // Bag: Vince Camuto (similar) // Shoes: Express (similar)

Hey ladies! I'm finally able to go back to blogging regularly now since...FINALS ARE OVER! There's no better feeling than being done with those ridiculous projects and exams. I swear, the only thing that was getting me through this was the fact that my college does finals so early so we can have 4 months of summer break instead of 3. To anyone who still has to go through finals, good luck!

Despite the fact that it's still technically spring, the weather yesterday was absolutely perfect which is rare in Rochester! I had to take advantage of it by wearing my new Philosophy top which has a high-low hem. Plus it's mint green which is a color I just can't resist! The hem gives it a regal appearance to an outfit that's supposed to be casual. I can totally see myself dressing this up with some leather leggings or skirt for a night out.

Have a lovely day and thanks for reading!
