2014 Recap

Hey guys! I thought I should do a little recap of my blog during 2014 even though I wasn't blogging the whole year. Yup, I've only seriously gotten into blogging since March and only started doing outfit posts since May. I technically started my blog back in 2013 but I only posted once in a while and it wasn't anything serious. I never thought I would get into blogging but that's the beauty of life: it's always surprising you.

Anyways, let's begin!

I started my blog back in 2013 as a place to write down my thoughts and share advice with other people. I went on a "hiatus" or in other words, wasn't sure if I was going to continue blogging. I came back in March because I was feeling bored from my life and needed a creative outlet again. Here's my first outfit post, yikes! haha.

During this time, I was also able to start a travel section and share my passion for travel with all of you. I blogged about my trip to NOLA and hopefully I'll be able to post more travel guides in 2015!

The summertime is when I started doing outfit posts more often and posting on a consistent basis. I was also doing a lot of product reviews and writing about traveling. I pretty much had nothing to do over the summer but it's nice to see that I made so much progress with the blog back then! haha.

Since I was still new to blogging, I had to learn how to manage my time better once school started. At this point, I started to take my blog more seriously and got into the business side of things such as marketing. I also attended Rochester Fashion Week which was a great boost for my blog!

These past two months were quiet ones on my blog. I did join some networks and started promoting my blog more on sites like Facebook. I was also lucky enough to work for the first time with an amazing company like Marley Lilly. It was a great way to end the year and I'm excited to see what's in store for me in 2015!

I can honestly say I'm so grateful for discovering something like blogging and all the opportunities it's given me. Blogging has taught me so many lessons but the most important one is that passion changes everything. I've become so much happier once I started doing what I'm passionate about and it's led to improvements in all areas of my life. Who knew this could all happen in one year? Certainly not me back last January! I suddenly have so much more faith in new beginnings

Favorite Celebrity Fashion Moments of 2014

There was so many great fashion moments from 2014 that it was so hard to narrow it down to just a couple! It makes me excited to see what's to come next year. Luckily, awards season is approaching so it won't be too long of a wait! In the meantime, let's talk about these amazing fashion moments...

Blake Lively in Gucci

Ridiculously classy and elegant. I got goosebumps when I saw this picture for the first time! It's such a timeless look and suites her perfectly.

Lily Collins in Elie Saab

The dress, the hair, the makeup...everything is perfect about this look! I dream of wearing something this beautiful one day.

Lupita Nyong'o in Prada

I saved the best for last, Lupita's Oscars dress that looks like it came straight out of a fairytale. This was such a magical moment in fashion...

What was your favorite fashion moments this year? Let me know!

My Fashion Resolutions For 2015

Hey guys! New Years is slowly approaching so I decided to put together a list of resolutions but this time around, involving fashion. I always look for new ways to improve my style but never actually go through with it. I thought the new year would be the perfect time to start these changes!

Wear More Color - I've noticed that I wear a lot of neutrals and sometimes it comes across as bland so I'd like to incorporate more color into my wardrobe.

Take More Risks - I tend to wear the same old things again and again since I know they work for my body but a fashionista needs to take more risks!

Less Online Shopping - I know, strange right? Clothes always look better online yet when I receive them and try them on, it never looks quite right. I'd like to actually go into stores and try on clothes more often haha.

Wear Heels - I'm a flats girl and only wear high heels for special ocassions, but I'd like to change things up! The problem is finding heels that I'm actually comfortable in for a long period of time haha. Is that even possible?

Wear More Jewelry - I only wear a few pieces of jewelry here and there so why not accessorize more? I'm always envious of girls on Instagram with their #armcandy pictures.

Experiment With Patterns - I always reach for solids more than patterns so I'd like to change this as well! My wardrobe feels so boring without any cute polka dots or stripes in it!

What are your fashion resolutions? Comment down below!

Dressed Up Denim

Coat: J. Crew // Shirt: c/o Marley Lilly // Skirt: Forever 21 // Shoes: Marshalls (old) // Bracelets: J. Crew and c/o Marley Lilly // Sunglasses: H&M (old) // Clutch: Marshalls (old)

I bought this J. Crew coat about 2 years ago and I still consider it to be one of my all-time best purchases. I consider it to be a "special occasion" coat because it's not easy to wear a white, wool coat everyday for places like school. Plus it's just too precious! I'm planning on wearing this for the next couple years haha. It's no longer at J. Crew but I found many sellers on ebay that are selling the exact same one. I linked one of the sellers but type in "J. Crew tipped peacoat" to see other sizes.

As for the denim shirt, you don't see monogrammed ones everyday! No surprise, it's from Marley Lilly. My obsession with them continues with this new denim shirt I received and the tassle bracelet which you can see up close here. I decided to take a chance and wear the denim shirt a little more dressed up and I have to say I love this combo.

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

"Maybe Christmas doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas...means a little bit more." -The Grinch

Hey guys, just wanted to stop by and say merry Christmas to all my readers! I hope you're all having an amazing day with your loved ones and celebrating! I can't say this enough but the holidays aren't about the material things (and this is coming from a fashion blogger ha). It's about the precious moments that you have with your family and friends. Cherish those moments because you'll look back on them one day and realize that they were the big things in your life.

Have a lovely day!

Last Minute New Years Dresses

If you're like me, then most likely you haven't chosen an outfit to wear for New Years eve yet. The easiest option would be to wear a dress so here are some of my favorite dresses that are perfect to help ring in the new year. I specifically chose stores that are at most malls since I know online shopping isn't an option at this point. Most online shops probably won't delivery your dress in the mail on time and it's pretty expensive to do express shipping these days. Have fun doing some last minute shopping!

Black & White

I'm obsessed with this backless one from Express, after all what's New Years eve without a little skin?

New Years eve is one of the few times where you can rock some sequins and get away with it. Take advantage of this opportunity by wearing this sequined abstract pattern dress from Forever 21.

Last but not least, my favorite dress from BCBG is now on sale with an extra 20% off! How adorable are those bows?

What are you planning on wearing for New Years eve? Comment below and let me know!

How I Stuck to My New Year's Resolution

Back in 2012, my New Year's resolution was to live a healthier lifestyle. Typical right? Our entire culture is obsessed with this resolution and sadly promotes dieting and "quick weight-loss" schemes instead of working out and eating clean. Well, I wanted to do it the right way and have the weight stay off once and for all. Guess what? I succeeded. It still feels strange to say that but I was able to achieve my goal and have been living a healthy lifestyle for two years and counting.

Yes I'm one of those people that goes to the gym regularly, owns cute workout clothes, and enjoys the benefits of clean eating. I never thought I would be that person. I used to be the girl that ran out of breath after walking up a flight of stairs at school and going out to eat 4-5 times a week. Everyone always asks me the question: How did you do it?!

Just like with all other success stories in life, the key to it is failing.

I failed so much at the resolution that it came to a point where I no longer cared about failing because I was getting up to try again each time. The first couple months was the hardest and I wanted to quit so badly, but no matter how bad things got, I didn't. I focused on my goal and did what I had to do, even though the easier choice would've been to quit. I did whatever it took to motivate myself from looking at inspiration on Instagram fitness groups to researching healthy eating techniques. I knew that eventually one day my efforts would be worth it.

I was right. I ended up losing around 30 pounds, got rid of my eating out addiction, and stopped looking at the scale obsessively. I realized that if you fall in love with the process, then the results will follow. Most importantly, after years of looking at the mirror and not liking what I see, I was finally able to be proud of myself.

Whatever resolution you're trying to achieve for the new year, make sure to not be afraid to fail and start over again. Remember that mistakes are okay as long as it doesn't defeat you and have you quit. Do whatever it takes to motivate yourself and don't listen to people that don't believe in your goals. Eliminate all negativity and listen to your own inner voice. 2015 is your year. You got this.

The White Shirt With a Twist

Shirt: J. Crew (on sale and extra 40% off!) // Jeans: Abercrombie // Bag: Marley Lilly c/o // Boots: Calvin Klein (similar) // Sunglasses: H&M (old) // Watch: Michael Kors // Bracelets: J. Crew and BCBG (old)

I own so many classic white shirts and I consider it to be an essential in a wardrobe. What was so unique about this one was the sequin stripes going down the sides. Leave it to J. Crew to give a refreshing twist to something so original. I swear, I'm falling in love with that store more and more everyday! As usual, I'm keeping it casual but it can easily be worn at night with a cute skirt and some heels.

As for the monogrammed bag, it's from Marley Lilly and you can still get yours (in any shade!) along with other monogrammed goodies for some affordable prices!

Men's Cologne Gift Guide

Cologne is a great gift for a guy and with so many deals going on in stores, you can manage to get an amazing designer one for almost half the retail price around this time of year. I've worked in fragrance for the past two years and I've learned a lot about which scents are the best and why the bestsellers are really...the best haha. Here are my 5 favorites that are perfect for that special someone in your life. Note: smell the cologne first before buying! I can't tell you how many customers have just bought the cologne just because it's being advertised everywhere.

1.) Bleu De Chanel - If you feel like splurging (it's Christmas after all!) go with Bleu De Chanel which is the latest cologne from the brand. It's woody without actually being heavy and contains notes such as sandalwood, cedar, and mint. It's quite long-lasting so a little goes a long way.

2.) Yves Saint Laurent "L'Homme" - For some reason, not many people know about this one. It's actually my favorite and can only be described as "light, but not too light". It's pretty much the perfect cologne that can be taken from day to night. The notes include ginger, citrus, and white pepper.

3.) Versace Eros -  It's difficult to choose just one Versace cologne since all of them are great (and bestsellers!) but Eros really tops them all. It's incredibly fresh is a great cologne for guys in their 20's. The notes are mint (it's literally the first one that hits you), geranium, tonka bean, and oakmoss.

4.) Givenchy Pi Neo - If your guy is a cologne collector and thinks he knows every single one out there, I'm 99% sure he doesn't know about this one. Another fresh cologne that doesn't give you a headache and is great for everyday. The notes are mandarin orange, cedar, and patchouli.

5.) Armani Acqua Di Gio - If there's one cologne that gets sold the most at the perfume shop I work at, it's this one! We literally have to re-order boxes of these because they go out so quick during the holidays. From teenagers to grandpas, I've sold this to everyone! If you're in doubt, defiantly go with this. It has an "ocean" smell and seems to go well with everyone's body chemistry. The notes are citrus, jasmine, and a wood base.

Hope this was helpful!

Kimora Lee Simmons is Back...

Kimora Lee Simmons isn't a name that you hear too often anymore but back in the day, it used to be in fashion magazines everywhere. She pretty much made the cat logo famous with her bedazzled denim, sweatsuits, and provocative dresses that was perfect for the hip-hop industry at the time. I remember being in middle school and wearing the infamous Baby Phat logo shirts and sneakers and watching her show "Life in the Fab Lane" which is sadly no longer on.

I'm so glad that she has come back and with a more sophisticated, modern KLS line this time around. It actually doesn't look like Baby Phat at all but that's what makes it so unique! She's never made a collection this sleek and dare I say it...plain? It's completely wearable for 2015 but there's a part of me that's kinda sad to see the Baby Phat logos go.

There's still that edgy, sexiness that her line was originally known for and I even heard that she's going to be modeling for the campaigns again! So excited! In case you forgot what the old Baby Phat ads used to look like...

Fabulous right?

College Talk: Things to Do Over Winter Break

The idea of having a whole month off of school is amazing...until you actually run out of things to do. My finals just ended last Friday and honestly, I'm already bored! What's a girl to do? I decided to come up with a list of ideas that I'm planning on doing this break and maybe it will inspire you to do the same. Winter break is a precious time that shouldn't be wasted!

1.) Get a Seasonal Job - Tons of places are still hiring for the holidays so spend your time making some extra cash! If you don't like the job, at least it's seasonal so you can leave right after the holidays are over!

2.) Work Out - Winter break is a great time to form good habits like working out. Ease your way into a healthier lifestyle by taking a spin class or trying a new workout routine at the gym.

3.) Make New Friends - All your college friends have gone back home and you might be feeling a little lonely. Try and reach out to people you've never talked to before and meet up at some place like a coffee shop. You never know, you might just meet your new best friend over break!

4.) Start a Blog - I've already dedicated a post to this here!

5.) Travel - This is my favorite thing to do over break and is worth every single penny. Take a couple friends with you and explore a new city. If you're really feeling adventurous, take a solo trip! Make sure to check out sites like Kayak for good deals.

6.) Explore Your Hometown - Travel can be a bit expensive so why not explore your hometown first? Try out a new restaurant or see what events are going on.

7.) Enjoy the Quiet - It's rare to find quiet moments during a hectic semester. Grab a cup of hot chocolate and enjoy the fact that you can finally relax after working hard for finals. Read a book, take a bubble bath, or find a good place to watch the sunset.

8.) Host a Party - Catch up with your old friends by hosting a holiday party where everyone can dress up and bring a dish. It'll be a nice break from the ordinary!

9.) Ice Skating - Take advantage of the wintertime by doing winter activities like ice skating! Sometimes it's good to feel like a kid again.

10.) Do Something That You've Been Wanting to Do Forever - We all have a bunch of recipes and crafts that we've pinned on Pinterest. Now's the perfect time to actually do them!

Hope you enjoyed this post! Follow me @ruyakiraccc on Instagram if you're really bored haha.

10 Reasons Why You Should Blog

1.) Writing is Good for You - It's no secret that having a creative outlet such as writing can be therapeutic. I can't tell you how good it feels to come home after a bad day and just sit and write for the blog. I've done some of my best writing on bad days!

2.) Meeting Amazing People - With so many bloggers out there and events like bloggers conferences, there's just so many new people that you can meet with the same interests as yours! This was actually one of the reasons why I started blogging, I felt that no one in my hometown was into fashion so I wanted to connect with others that understood my passion for it!

3.) Free Stuff -It really depends on what type of blog you have but if you work hard enough, you could get free stuff like gift cards. Although this shouldn't be the only reason that you blog, I'll admit it is a nice perk!

4.) Documenting Your Life - It's great to look back on old posts and see the way you've changed as a person whether it's through your writing, photos, or even the thoughts that you've had back then.

5.) You'll Learn About Business - I think there's some sort of irony in the fact that I've learned more about business through blogging than I have in my business classes. Real life experience is just so much better than sitting in a classroom. I've learned how to network, market products, and develop my "brand" through blogging.

6.) You'll Learn to Not Quit -  I can't tell you how important perseverance is and how it relates to all aspects of your life. There's so many times where I've wanted to quit blogging because I thought it was "pointless" yet I still kept going. All because of blogging, I began to develop an attitude where no matters how hard things get, quitting is no longer an option.

7.) Having an Impact on Others - Your opinion matters and sharing that opinion with others from all over the world, can make a huge difference. You could just be an inspiration for someone and you don't even know it.

8.) Opportunities - There's so many opportunities out there that I never thought was possible until I started blogging. There are some people out there that have full-time jobs because of blogging! The possibilities are endless...

9.) Gaining Confidence - I really wouldn't describe myself as a confident person, but doing what I love seemed to have changed that. Sharing my opinion on the internet, writing posts endlessly, and promoting my work seems to bring out confidence that I didn't even know I had.

10.) You Will Improve As a Person - Blogging is hard and to anyone who says it isn't, well they just haven't blogged before. If you're a serious blogger, then you probably already know about the many challenges that it comes with. You might have a tough time promoting your blog or you might work really hard on a post and your readers didn't like it. Whatever challenge you're facing, keep going because in the end you'll improve dramatically. If it was easy, anyone could do it.

Hope you enjoyed this post!

J. Crew Jewelry Haul

Out of pure luck (or just really good timing) I managed to get a great deal on these gorgeous pieces of jewelry from J. Crew. I randomly walked in on a Wednesday night to see what's new and saw that everything in the store was 30% off. There's always this small section near the register where they put all the jewelry that's gone on a regular sale which is where I found these! Add the 30% off discount plus 15% off with a college ID and there you have it! Major savings...

Sadly, it's not available online but make sure to check out your local J.Crew to see if they still have these left! I bought the tassel bracelet, two necklaces (that look great layered!), and some earrings that will look great for the holidays.

What have you found on sale lately? Let me know!

Until next time lovelies,

Pastel Pink Coat

Coat: H&M // Top: Ann Taylor (50% off with the code joyful50) // Skirt: Forever 21 // Bag: Boutique in Istanbul // Boots: Calvin Klein (similar) // Hat: H&M (old) // Sunglasses: Express

Finally the semester's over and I feel like I can breathe again! All that time spent on studying for finals could've been spent on something more my blog! haha. I forgot all about this outfit that I took pictures of last month when it was still fall. I miss that season so much :( Currently, we have a snow storm in upstate NY so it looks like I won't be going outside for pictures for a while.

As for the outfit, pastels are all over the place and it's quite a nice change from all the dark colors that winter is typically associated with. I found this coat at H&M on the sales rack so make sure to get it before it's sold out! As for the other parts of the outfit, it's all just repeats. I haven't gone out shopping in weeks (not even online!) because of finals so it feels like I don't know who I am anymore haha. Shopping keeps me sane, I swear.
