Houndstooth | 5 comments:

Jacket: Express // Skirt: Express // Boots: DV by Dolce Vita

Over the weekend I was going through some family photos when I came across this picture of myself around age 4. The red sweater and houndstooth skirt was a complete throwback to the 90's which funny enough is trendy right now. Imagine my surprise when I stopped by Express yesterday to check out their new fall collection and came across this jacket and skirt combo. Who knew you could get some pretty great fashion inspiration from your younger self? (Trust me, I've made some pretty bad fashion mistakes back in the day!). Here's the original photo just in case you were wondering:

A huge thank you to my mother for taking the time to dress me up so nice as a kid! And yes that is 90's Barbie wallpaper. I was such a cool kid haha.

The Fall Wardrobe: Vince Camuto Booties | No comments:

"The average woman falls in love 7 times a year. Only 6 are with shoes." - Kenneth Cole

Introducing...my new favorite shoes for fall! Usually when I'm shopping, I look for pieces that will go with everything in my wardrobe but is also practical enough to wear for a day at college. High heels are great and all but walking around a big campus? That's a big no. That's why I fell in love with these boots that have a flat heel but are also stylish enough to not get bored of.

They're by Vince Camuto and I bought them at Macy's but sadly when I tried to find a link to them online, they were nowhere to be seen. I know Vince Camuto shoes are sold at many department stores so make sure to keep an eye on them!

I think my favorite thing about these shoes is how lightweight they are. Heavy boots are just so uncomfortable and hurt my feet but with these they make walking in them effortless! I'm defiantly going to be bringing these on my Europe trip since we're going to be doing a lot of walking there. In the meantime, I'll include these in an upcoming outfit post!

Mindy's Style From The Mindy Project | No comments:

I'll admit, I just started watching The Mindy Project yesterday and I already finished watching the first two seasons. ITS THAT GOOD. I always heard about Mindy Kaling being this talented triple threat because she acts, writes, and produces and now I see why! She's so inspirational and her show is absolute perfection. If you like comedy, romance, and pop culture references then you should defiantly give this show a try!

Of course, what really got me into the show is her impeccable style. No surprise there right? Whoever the stylist is on this show should defiantly get an award cause they found the perfect way to mix preppy with daytime glamour. Mindy's style consists of chic trench coats, mixed patterns, and bold accent colors that in a way completely reminds me of what J.Crew would sell but much bolder.

It's just so fun and quirky yet still makes her look put together! And those purses!? I'm so jealous.

What do you think of her style? Have you seen the show?

The Varsity Jacket | No comments:

Jacket: Lord & Taylor // Shorts: Marshalls // Boots: DV by Dolce Vita (old) // Bag: Zara

The varsity jacket trend always seems to come back around the fall since it's considered one of those eternally preppy, back-to-school looks. Of course, you don't need to be going to school in order to wear this trend. I spotted this jacket a few weeks ago at Lord & Taylor and loved how it's a different take on such a classic look. The leather and lace combination gives it a sweet, edgy look that's great to wear over a dress or with shorts and tights like I did here. Instead of putting away all my shorts, I like to keep one or two in my closet so I can wear them with tights on warmer, fall days. It's a great way to transition some of your summer pieces into fall!

Current Obsession: Midi Rings | No comments:

I'll admit, I kinda have a love-hate relationship with midi rings. At first when the trend came out I was obsessed with them and spent a bunch of money on them online since the trend didn't hit stores yet. Half of the ones I bought, I lost since they're so tiny and dainty and the other half were too tight on my fingers. I gave up on the trend and never looked back. Life's hard when you have sausage fingers like I do...

Of course, Instagram would lead me back to my old obsession with these rings and I began to search for them again but this time I wanted to find them for cheaper. These ones I found at Charming Charlie which usually isn't the most cheapest of places, I know. Surprisingly, I got a pack of two for $8 and the "swirly" ring for $6.50 so I didn't think it was too bad. I did go into Forever 21 and took a look at their midi rings but all they had was some plain gold ones that looked like they can break at any time. These rings on the other hand, are much more high quality and come in fun designs.

After wearing these for a few days, I'm surprised by how comfortable they are (they weren't the first time around!) and most of the time I forget that they're even there. I especially love wearing them with a plain outfit since it instantly gives your outfit a girly touch without being over the top.

What do you think of midi rings?

J.Crew Vest | No comments:

Vest: J.Crew // Skirt: Zara // Bag: Zara // Shoes: DV by Dolce Vita (old) // Necklace: J. Crew (old)

Puffy vests are typically something that I shy away from. I just can't help but think of that one Seinfeld episode where George (my favorite character!) is rocking an obnoxiously puffy coat made out of gore-tex. Of course, J.Crew would be the store that completely changes my mind on all things "puffy". The pretty cranberry color and the useful pockets makes it both chic and warm enough for the chilly fall days. Instead of going the casual route, I decided to dress it up with this gorgeous new skirt from Zara and my J.Crew necklace that matches the vest. When it comes to fashion, I always seem to play it safe with more simple outfit choices but like I mentioned before, this blog always makes me want to do something a little bit different. It's fashion and there's practically no rules so why not experiment?

The Perfumer Diaries: Escada Island Kiss Review | No comments:

Introducing...one of my all-time favorite perfumes: Escada Island Kiss. I don't know what it is about Escada perfumes but people just go crazy over them! I think what makes them so special is that a majority of them are limited edition so once they're gone, it becomes almost impossible to find them. Luckily, the one that I'm sharing with you today is still in many department stores, perfume shops, and sold online.

The top notes are magnolia, passion fruit, and raspberry which isn't as strong and fruity once sprayed. I would say the middle notes are far more dominant which include hibiscus and rose hip. Lastly, the bottom notes are sandalwood and white woods which gives it some lasting power.

Judging from the name and the notes, you would think it's a summer-only fragrance but I've actually used this year-round because I loved it so much! It's light and airy for people that are sensitive to scents but still lasts the whole day on your skin.

I wouldn't label it is as a "sophisticated" fragrance but more for girls who are in college like I am and have just recently started getting out of that Victoria's Secret body sprays phase. It's just a great, everyday perfume that's unique enough to get compliments but isn't overpowering. I would describe it as being the perfect perfume for someone in their early 20's.

Downtown | 6 comments:

Sweater: Ann Taylor // Leggings: Ann Taylor // Bag: Zara // Flats: Me Too via Marshalls

Lately in my outfit posts, I've noticed I've been taking the pictures at "nature-y" locations such as parks. It's funny cause I'm not a nature person at all but I guess I've been going to these types of places because it's usually empty around mid-day. The whole fashion blogging thing is kinda awkward when you have people staring at you when taking pictures in ordinary places. I guess this is what happens when you're an introvert! Well, this introvert sucked it up and shot these photos in downtown to really embrace the meaning of street style.

It was a particularly chilly day so I decided to wear one of my new fall outfits that consists of two pieces that I think every girl should have in her closet. A black sweater that would go with everything in your wardrobe and leather leggings that can be taken from day to night. This black sweater from Ann Taylor is actually a poncho that can be adjusted with the gold zippers that are at the sides. It's ridiculously comfortable especially at a long day at school and keeps you warm as you walk across campus. As for the leggings, instead of being shiny they're made from a matte material that's far more wearable for the everyday college girl. I completed the look with this new Zara bag (how gorgeous is that color!) and my leopard flats to make it look more interesting.

Tresemee 7 Day Smooth Keratin Treatment | No comments:

Frizzy hair: we all have it and most of us want to get rid of it. What could possibly be worse than that? Oh, that's right...having naturally curly hair that you spend so much time on trying to get straight and it ends up frizzing once you walk outside. Great. As you can obviously tell in my outfit posts, I've been battling a severe case of frizzy hair from the humid weather that we've been having lately so I'm desperate to try anything that I come across. While I was in the drugstore, I came across this Tresemee product that I always saw in the commercials yet never really thought would work for my curly hair.

I decided to give it a try anyways (since it was only $6) and was disappointed to see that it was such a small bottle of product. The directions say to use 2 pumps on 6 evenly divided sections of damp hair but I think depending on the hair type, you can use less. Then, you blow dry your hair (don't straighten it!) and then use a flat iron to "activate" the product. Apparently the results are supposed to last through 3 washes and a full 7 days.

So what were my results? Well I wasn't disappointed the first day I used it. There was a big difference when it came to how smooth and straight my hair was. I don't think I've ever seen my hair have so little frizz in my entire life! I even went outside on a humid, sunny day and the results still lasted! I was impressed and thought it worked. Unfortunately, the results didn't last the next day and I was back to my frizzy hair. It didn't last through three washes like it said either and what's worse is that it dried out my hair!

It could possibly work for someone with naturally straight hair that's battling a small amount of frizz everyday, but for girls like us with thick, curly hair it was just a waste of time. I guess if you wanted to only use it for a special ocassion then I guess it could get the job done, but I say save your money and invest in something better than this.

Until next time lovelies,

Greys | No comments:

Sweater: J. Crew (old) // Skirt: Forever 21 // Boots: DV by Dolce Vita "Joust" // Bag: Michael Kors Selma // Watch: Michael Kors // Bracelet: BCBG (old)

Today I felt even more preppy than usual and since the weather was getting chilly, I decided to pull out this J. Crew sweater from the back of my wardrobe. I bought it on sale last winter and I've worn it a million times yet still can't get enough of it. The two-tone greys, the jeweled collar, and the warm fabric justified the expensive price tag even though it was on sale (don't you hate when that happens?).

I paired it with the pleated scuba skirt that I already made a post about here and the Dolce Vita ankle boots to toughen up the look. Of course, I'm still wearing my Selma bag since I can't seem to find any good black bags at the moment but it's nice to be able to get so much use out of a white bag. As you can tell from the previous posts, I've worn it so much over the summer that I can't believe at one point in time I didn't want to get a white bag! It's crazy cause it literally goes with everything and still looks as clean as the first day I bought it. Seriously, don't be afraid of buying a white bag! You won't regret it!

Fall 2014 Wishlist | No comments:

"Autumn, the year's last, loveliest smile." -William Cullen Bryant

Who doesn't love the fall season? The warm colors of the leaves, the crisp chill of the air, and being able to wear comfy sweaters again! I look forward to this season every year! Although I'm missing summer already, fall makes up for it completely. I kinda wish there was a city or country where it was just fall all the time. You can always visit places where it's warm or freezing all year round but there's no place in the world where it's fall all the time. I think that's what makes the season so special.

Anyways, let's get on with the wishlist:

1.) Fedora - Rag & Bone
2.) Leather Jacket - Burberry Brit
3.) Cropped Sweater - Vivetta
4.) Plaid Skirt - Alice + Olivia
5.) Ankle Boots - Tory Burch
6.) Tote - Givenchy Obsedia (hey I can dream right?)
7.) Lipstick - Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Catfight

LC Lauren Conrad dress, Michael Kors bag, Madden Girl shoes (old)

Decided to do something different today by wearing this pretty patterned dress from the LC by Lauren Conrad collection at Kohls. I'm not usually one for patterns yet I've been finding myself wearing them a lot lately for no apparent reason. I think this is a great dress for a daytime event or simply dressing up for a dinner. My favorite part of the dress is the cut out in the front which isn't too revealing and appropriate for a special school event or any other place where you can't show too much skin.

I paired it with my go-to black heels which I'm not going to say are the most comfiest shoes in the world but they are tolerable! As for the white Michael Kors bag, I'm going to have to retire it soon and find a new bag to carry for the fall/winter season. I'm quite picky when it comes to handbags and it always takes me a long time to find the "one" especially when it comes to black bags! I just never found one that I really liked or is in my price range *sighs*. Any recommendations would be great!

Until next time lovelies,
