Outfits of Summer 2014

Hey guys! I thought I should do a little review of all the outfits that I wore this past summer. Although I'm sad to see summer go away, I'm looking forward to fall and all of it's beauty. I don't care what anyone says, in my mind fall is the best season ♥ Without further ado, here are the outfits that I wore from June-August. I attached links underneath each outfit so you can see the actual posts if you wanted to see more photos.
 Look #10, Look #11, Look #12

Look #13, Look #14, Look #15

It's nice to see that my photos have improved since I first started doing these outfit posts. At first, I honestly didn't know what I was doing and it was quite nerve-wrecking to post these pictures but hey, failure is the best teacher. After a while, my photographer and I learned what worked and what didn't and now it only takes us 10-15 minutes to get some good photos. I think the best advice I can give to someone who's starting out a fashion blog is to have a photographer that they're 100% comfortable with and who has a lot of patience. Us, fashion bloggers, are quite picky people so we need someone who's willing to understand our vision and does whatever it takes to help us. I'm very lucky to say that I have my best friend as my photographer and she's been doing an amazing job since the very beginning!

Moroccan Oil Smoothing Shampoo & Conditioner

It feels like it's been so long since I've reviewed a beauty product! I remember when I first started this blog, it was more beauty rather than fashion. Anyways, I've always wanted to try the original Moroccan Oil line that started the craze but the price always made me search for something cheaper. When I ran out of both shampoo and conditioner (how did that happen?!) this past week, I decided to take a chance and try it out.

The Moroccan oil line comes in three different shampoos and conditioners: smoothing, clarifying, and moisturizing. Since I can't actually use the clarifying one frequently (only once every 2 weeks according to the directions) and I'm iffy about moisturizing shampoos so I went with the smoothing one.

The first thing you'll notice when you use the shampoo is the strong cologne-like smell. It may be bothersome to some, but since I work at a perfume shop it doesn't bother me as much. Once you get past the smell, you'll notice it lathers better than most sulfate-free shampoos (I hate how they don't lather! ugh!) and doesn't leave your hair dry. The last shampoo that I was using was sulfate-free yet seemed to really take out all the moisture in my hair.

If you're someone like me who needs that extra moisture, look no further than this conditioner. I am obsessed with how only a small amount of conditioner can moisturize all my damaged ends. I was quite impressed since I always use conditioner more than shampoo because of how dry my hair is! With this, you only need a small dime-size amount and you're good to go.

As for the smoothing factor, it made my hair much softer and I noticed less fly-aways in my hair once I came out of the shower. After I blow dried my hair straight, I found that I didn't need to use much anti-frizz serum on my hair because my hair already looked smooth enough! What really made me love this product was when I went outside on a hot, humid day and my straight hair stayed straight with no frizz the whole time! That's the first time that's ever happened to me. Seriously why haven't I tried this stuff sooner?!

Overall, I'm going to continue using this line and more products from them because I'm defiantly impressed! I just loved the way my hair looked and felt and I haven't been impressed with a hair product in a long time. The price is a bit steep at $28 per bottle but I think it will last me for quite a while.

Anthropologie Floral Trousers

Hollister shirt (similar), Anthropologie pants, J.Crew flats (old), Michael Kors watch

This is just one of those outfits that works great when the weather is between summer and fall (think low 70's) and you're left wondering what to wear for school. The Hollister shirt is actually linen and keeps me cool inside stuffy classrooms while the floral pants gives off a summer vibe since it's not officially fall yet. I decided to give the outfit a more retro look when I noticed that my Hollister shirt was a bit too big on me now. There's no point in wasting good clothing so I just tied it at the waist and rolled up the sleeves.

As for the pants, they're great for a girly-girl like me yet once you look at the details you'll notice they used some leather trim to toughen it up. I splurged on these at Anthropologie last week and they were worth every penny. I've never had a pair of pants that I didn't have to tailor until now! These ones fit me perfectly! If you're short like me and need a good pair of pants, look no further than Anthropologie. Although I don't think the place is ideal for a college girl's budget, every once in a while it's nice to splurge there because the quality and fit is fantastic. Plus who doesn't love the window displays and decorations they have in there?! So artsy!

Oh and if you're wondering where I took these photos at, it's at my own college campus of course! What kind of college fashion blogger would I be if I didn't take pics at my own campus? Honestly, I felt a bit cheesy while doing this cause it felt like I was in one of those back to school Target commercials but oh well!

Well that's it for now, I hope you all are having fun back at college!

Nails of the Day: "Be Your Own Anchor"

Yes, I just quoted Teen Wolf in a nail post, stranger things have happened. That's really the first thing I thought when I used an anchor stamp on my ring finger for this mani! That quote was actually one of my favorites from the show and always seemed to make me feel better whenever it came to mind.

Anyways let's move on, I apologize for the lack of nail posts this past month! I just haven't had any inspiration when it comes to my nails so I left them naked for the past month and a half! No wonder my life felt like it was going out of control haha. In my mind, nice nails are a sign that your life is together.

For this look I used Gelish "Oh What a Knight!" which is a shimmery rose gold color from their Once Upon a Dream collection. The accent nail is Gelish "Mali-blu Me Away" from their recent summer collection Colors of Paradise. These are really the only two colors that I liked from their past two collections this year but hopefully I'll be getting a few colors from the fall collection. Who can resist fall colors?!

Deal of the Week: Forever 21 Scuba Skirt

In high school, I used to be obsessed with Forever 21 and spent every penny on their clothes. Then, as I got more into fashion and specifically my whole "quality over quantity" philosophy, I stopped shopping at Forever 21. They're clothing just didn't seem to be appealing anymore and I got sick of buying clothes that fell apart after a few washes. Why spend hard earned money that you can only wear a few times?! Nowadays, the only time I ever go in there is if I need some basics like a white tee. That's exactly what happened yesterday when I visited the only one we have in Rochester and went in there looking for a hat. I found this black scuba skirt that I wanted to wear for the upcoming fall season and couldn't help but buy it once I noticed the $12.80 price tag!

Of course, Forever 21 has a ridiculous policy where you can't return clothes so I suggest it trying it on in stores before buying it! Nonetheless, once you try it on you'll realize that it's actually made from decent scuba material and will (hopefully) hold up through the fall/winter season.

Here you can see the details which includes pleats and a elastic waist which surprisingly makes you look slimmer when worn.

Here is a link to the skirt in case you feel like ordering it online!

Emmys 2014 Favorites

It's been a while since I've talked about an award show on Sweet, Short and Stylish and that's because the few award shows that have been going on haven't really impressed me when it comes to the style department. Luckily, many celebrities decided to be on their A-game and look fabulous for the red carpet last night at the Emmys. Although there was a lot of misses, there was a few ladies that managed to get it right and get on the best dressed list. Here they are...

Allison Williams

I really wasn't expecting this from Allison but nonetheless, I think she was on the top of the best dressed list last night wearing Giambattista Valli Spring 2014 Couture. I absolutely adore a retro gown and love the unexpected twist that the yellow belt gives it. Now this is how a Hollywood star should dress!

Sarah Hyland

I always love to see what Sarah is going to wear since she's closer to my age group and she didn't disappoint! I would totally wear this Christian Siriano ensemble to an award show...if only I can make it look as elegant as she did!

Janurary Jones

A dress with pockets is always a good idea! This one is by Prabal Gurung and the strappy shoes which I'm obsessed with is by Christian Louboutin (no surprise there).

Teyonah Parris

I saved the best one for last...another spectacular Christian Siriano gown that defiantly turned heads for all the right reasons. I love people who takes risks on the red carpet and wear something bold. Although the bright colors might scare some people, the elegance of the gown pulls everything together.

What did you think of the Emmys red carpet? Any other looks you liked?

Zara Fall 2014 Shirt

Fall is my favorite time of year and I'm so excited to be sharing my fall outfits for this blog! Fall in upstate New York is beautiful so I'm really looking forward to finding new places to shoot and sharing the beauty of it with you guys. Although the weather isn't chilly enough for it to be fall yet, I couldn't help but wear this Zara shirt since it's a great transitional piece when going from summer to fall. I especially love the pointy collar since it's not too dramatic but still gives those retro vibes when wearing it.

I kept it casual with some skinny jeans from Abercrombie, a great "bad hair day" hat from Asos, and this adorable purse that's also from Asos. I finished off the look with the Nine West cut-out ankle boots that I was wearing a few weeks ago here.

Until next time lovelies,

P.S. I'm currently in a link-up and if any of you feel like linking up and meeting some other cool bloggers as well feel free to join here on the Mae Amor blog or here on the Style Elixer blog.

The Best College Advice I've Ever Read

I can't tell you how many times a day I hear a kid around my age say "I don't know what I'm doing with my life". Now that school is starting back up, I'll be hearing more of this but also feeling the pressure myself. It's scary not knowing who you are or what you want to do for the rest of your life but at least we're not the only ones that feel this way! I truly believe that every single human being on this planet that lives in a first-world country goes through the whole "lost college kid" phase and eventually becomes who they are destined to be.

Of course, not every college kid will admit to feeling lost and not having a clue about their lives. In life you will come across many idiots and I'm sure you've come across that one idiot who thinks they're so damn sure about everything. I swear, nothing's worse than an idiot in denial. Let's just face the fact here that NO ONE IN THEIR 20'S AND POSSIBLY 30'S KNOWS FOR SURE WHAT THEY'RE DOING WITH THEIR LIVES. Glad that's out of the way...

So what do you do if you're not one of these idiots? Just like Brandon aka the creator of Humans of New York said "Just work. Don't wait". I believe that the truly intelligent people in this world are the ones who are constantly wondering about new possibilities and going out there to find out more about them. They're the ones who take on new opportunities so they can learn more about themselves. They're not afraid of the process and don't care about the time it takes to get there because they know it's for their own good at the end. Remember, a life filled with mistakes is always better than a life spent doing nothing. Imagine how boring that is! Go out there and try out everything.

Now action is the first step so what's the second? Acceptance. Accepting the fact that you're going to make a lot of mistakes along the way and that it's not a straight-forward process is going to take a little getting used to. But once you accepted it, you'll realize how much easier it is to deal with all this stuff when you have a calm mind. Relax, take a breath, and trust yourself. You've come this far, how could you possibly think you're going to fail now?! The only way you're going to fail is if you sit on the couch and do nothing. No one ever really accomplished anything in their lives when they just sat down and "thought" about what they should do.

Hopefully this post helped at least one of you but if not, I hope every single one of you eventually becomes who you've always wanted to be in life. I hope you all live out your dreams and have the courage to keep moving forward if everything doesn't work out. Most of all, I hope you at least have some fun and can smile through this sometimes, painful process.

Throwback Thursday: Eva Mendes for The Edit

Hey guys! Due to not having much inspiration lately when it comes to blogging (I like to call it Bloggers' Block) I decided to post a throwback of one of my favorite photoshoots featuring the stunning Eva Mendes. Over the years I've accumulated a lot of photos from fashion photoshoots that have inspired me and I thought I'd share them with you.

This photoshoot was for The Edit which is Net-a-Porter's online magazine which shows Eva wearing various talented designers such as Alexander McQueen, Anna Sui, and the infamous lace dresses from last year's Dolce & Gabbana fall/winter collection. These photos were released for the September 2013 issue so I thought it would be interesting to see how the trends have changed from last fall compared to the 90's trends that are present this year.

I'm in love with how they decided to do the photoshoot outdoors in natural lighting and how the girly dresses she's wearing makes a nice contrast against the trees and antique furniture.

The photoshoot completely reflects Eva's personal style as well and many of these dresses look exactly like what she wears in real life on the red carpet. I love how she always keeps it classy and retro and really embraces the ladylike look. A modern-day Sophia Loren am I right?

And the hair! Ugh I have major hair envy after seeing these photos again. Also, those Dolce & Gabbana headbands are to die for.

Hope you enjoyed this! What are some of your favorite photoshoots from the past?

The Perfumer Diaries: Dolce by Dolce & Gabbana Review

Hey guys and welcome to my new series of posts called "The Perfumer Diaries"! In each of these posts, I'll be reviewing popular fragrances and giving you my opinion on them based on my two (soon to be three!) years of experience as being a "perfumer" or in other words someone who works in the fragrance industry. Believe or not, a lot goes into helping someone choose their signature fragrance and hopefully these posts will help you to come one step closer to finding your own! So without further's Dolce & Gabbana's latest perfume: Dolce

Right away, many people would be tempted to try this perfume due to the girly-shaped bottle which is actually quite unusual for Dolce & Gabbana. Dolce & Gabbana usually sticks to sleek and simple designed bottles that goes with their image of celebrating powerful and sexy women. Of course, there's nothing wrong with change! I personally like the flower shaped top and I think it would look great on a vanity.

Let's get down to the details: the top note is defiantly floral and I'm guessing it's marzipan since that's what the flower on the bottle cap is. Other top notes that I can detect are water lily and neroli which as you can tell, are pictured in the ad above. After you first spray the fragrance and it settles down, you can also pick up the scent of musk. Flowers and musk? Sounds a bit granny right? But it's actually quite clean and not overwhelming at all. It's a great everyday fragrance since it's so light and doesn't give you a headache or to anyone else around you!

As for longeivity, it only lasted 3-4 hours on me which is quite sad since it is a eau de parfum and is considered the "heaviest" of perfume formulas. Typically eau de parfum should last the entire day and still have a faint trace of smell the next day on your clothes! Very disappointed.

Bottom line: I give this a 7/10

Why? It doesn't "wow" me and I don't think the perfume is worth the price especially from a brand like Dolce & Gabbana which is known to have unique scents. If this is your first time buying designer perfume or want to buy a gift for someone but want to keep it "safe" as far as scents go then I think this is a good choice. If you're a college girl and you're looking for a designer perfume to wear everyday then I think this would be what you're looking for. Other than that, I don't think many people who are perfume fanatics would buy this because they would have something similar to it already in their collection. Not to say that this is a horrible smelling perfume! It's just very clean and simple and some people like that and some people don't.

Hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know what perfumes you would like to see me review!

Mango Embellished Skirt

Jacket: Forever 21 (no longer avaliable), Top: Marshalls, Skirt: Mango, Shoes: Michael Kors, Sunglasses: H&M

Is it just me or did summer just pass by in the blink of an eye? I've never felt a summer go by as quick as this one did but maybe it's because I had more stuff to do this summer than ever before. There was summer classes, longer hours at work, and of course further working on fashion posts for this blog. Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining but I just wish I had more time to relax and not be such a workaholic. I feel like it only gets worse with age, oh well. Travel is the best medicine for it I would say!

Onto the outfit...since summer is ending I'm trying to wear all my favorite summer outfits before the warm weather is gone and replaced with the brutal cold that Rochester is known for. I decided to go more casual today and wear my favorite jean jacket that I found a few years back from Forever 21 with this Mango skirt that I recently bought at JcPenny. Honestly, I don't think the Mango line at JcPenny even compares to the Mango stores all over Europe. I shopped at so many in Istanbul and always found something that I liked each time yet this is the first time that I'm buying something from the one in America. It just doesn't seem as appealing to me for some reason!

Michael Kors Dress

The Michael Kors obsession continues...this is just one of those dresses that's comfortable enough to wear for everyday yet still makes you look polished. I found it at Macy's over the weekend on sale and completely fell in love. Although it's a pretty thin material, I'm thinking about wearing it with some tights and a leather jacket on a warm day during the fall. I just love clothes that can be worn from season to season. It makes you feel less guilty for spending money on it when you shouldn't be! Ha.

I decided to pair it with this hat that I bought from Asos, some Nine West booties (obsessed with big zippers!) and my trusty Selma bag which I'll be retiring soon for the winter. I'm paranoid about a white bag getting dirty so I prefer to save it in my closet until spring comes around again. In the meantime I need to look for a fall/winter bag, maybe in black?

Until next time lovelies,
