Tips for Blow Drying Your Hair Straight

Hey guys! I hope everyone had a great Memorial day weekend! When it comes to my hair I typically wear it straight and adore the blow out look that you typically receive from the salon after a nice cut and color. After much trial and error, I finally learned how to perfect the same look at home and wanted to share the tips with you in case anyone else is having trouble with it like I was before.

1.) The Right Technique

In order to learn how the proper technique is done I watched a bunch of different videos from Youtube and found Mimi from Luxy Hair's video to be the most easiest to understand and do myself. She's clear, precise, doesn't ramble on and on and has naturally curly hair so she's defiantly a winner in my book. Click here for the link. Honestly there's not much to the technique and once you get past it feeling like an arm workout, you start to be able to do it quicker. Practice makes perfect!

2.) The Right Brush

When it comes to my blow out, since I have thick hair, I like to use a round brush with bristles that's also heat activated so it can dry my hair quicker. Currently I'm using Brush Lab's Ceramic Curls 3 and a 1/2 inch Thermal Round brush which you can see here on the Ulta website. It comes in a variety of different sizes and I've heard multiple Youtubers rave about the product and I'm in love with it! The grip handle does hurt my hands at times from twisting the brush around so much but overall it's the best brush I've come across.

3.) The Right Blow Dryer

Personally, I don't think you need to spend hundreds on a fancy blow dryer when there's so many out there for affordable prices that can work just as good. The key is to find a ceramic/ionic blow dryer that's going to make a big difference when it comes to the shine of your hair and how quickly it dries. Check out places like Sallys (which is where I bought myn) and Ulta for good deals on high-end blow dryers.

4.) The Right Products

This one is tough because not all products fit all hair types. It might take some time to find the right product for you but my HOLY GRAIL hair product is Bumble & Bumble's Straight Blow Dry which you can see here. It's a cream formula that you apply to your hair when wet and helps to protect your hair from the heat while at the same time helping you to straighten your hair quicker. I swear by this stuff and I'm sure this product is the only reason my hair looks like I just came out of the salon, as cheesy as it sounds!

I hope these tips helped in some way although some of them may seem fairly obvious. I didn't know much about this stuff before researching it so I thought it would be a nice guide for beginners trying it out at home for the first time.

Until next time lovelies,

Nails of the Day: Glitter Explosion

Hey guys! so I decided to celebrate the end of the semester with a shopping trip (what else is new?) and picked up a new gel polish shade: Gelish's Party Girl Problems which is a part of the Trends collection that came out a few months ago. In case you didn't know, the Trends collection is basically a bunch of unique gel top coats that can also be layered to make opaque and is avaliable in stores such as Sally's Beauty Supply.

Party Girl Problems has got to be my most favorite gel polish! The pictures don't do it justice cause it looks so much better in real life! It's just so girly and glittery and can be seen from a mile away! I'm so glad I bought this one. It contains a mixture of blue, purple, red and silver glitters in it but I would say the dominant color is purple.

Since it was a top coat and takes a few layers to make opaque, I decided to first apply one coat of Gelish's You Glare, I Glow as a base and then applied two coats of Party Girls Problems. I've seen shots of Party Girl Problems without a base on Chickettes and it looks great both ways but I prefer saving some time.

The only complaint I have is that it took me a while to apply it since it was such a thicker formula compared to most Gelish polishes. Maybe it's because of the amount of glitter it contains? I managed to make it work at the end but something to keep in mind if you do buy this!

What do you think of the Trends collection? Any favorites? Let me know!

Perfumes That Every College Girl Should Try

Working at a perfume shop has defiantly taught me a lot about perfume and how surprisingly many college girls don't own at least one good designer fragrance! I consider having at least one designer perfume to be a good investment because most of the time, you only need one spritz and you won't need to apply for the rest of the day unlike body sprays.

So here's my guide to perfumes that almost every college girl out there would love or at least should try when making the investment for a designer scent...

Burberry Brit Sheer

If you're just getting started on perfume and don't know much about it, try this one first! It's clean, feminine, and classic and is for the girl who's carefree and youthful aka us, college girls! Notes include pink peony, peach blossom, and bright yuzu.

 Armani Acqua di Gioia

If you're into the more "oceany" scents or simply want to get a bunch of compliments from guys then you MUST try this one. It's no surprise to me that so many guys love this one on girls since Acqua di Gio (the men's cologne from the same designer) is a bestseller. Although by no means will you smell like a guy with this perfume, they do have a few similar notes. Notes include mint, lemon, jasmine, and pink pepper.

Marc Jacobs Daisy

Although Marc Jacobs has been coming out with different variations of this perfume such as "Daisy Delight" and "Daisy Eau So Fresh Delight" (seriously I can't keep track anymore...), I still stick to the original Daisy. It's girly yet not in a sugary, sweet sorta of way but something a bit more grown-up that has amazing lasting power. Notes are violet, ruby red grapefruit, and gardenia. Surprisingly none of the notes include daisies...strange.

Gucci Flora

If you're looking for a fragrance that's a bit more elegant yet isn't "granny", try Gucci's Flora which also comes in many different variations of the original scent. Top notes include citrus, peony, and rose while middle and base notes are pink pepper and sandalwood.

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue

I swear this stuff sells like water at the perfume shop I work at. This scent is the best for college girls because of it's light, airy smell with a hint of citrus that's not overpowering. I would consider this the perfect everyday perfume for a girl that's always on the go. Top notes are granny smith apple, sicilian cedar, and bluebells while middle and base notes are jasmine and cedarwood.

Dior Addict Eau Fraiche

Fun, flirty, and sweet are the three perfect words to describe this fragrance. If you're already a Dior perfume fan, you might've heard that this smells the same as the discontinued Dior Addict 2. Personally I'm not too sure, but nonetheless it's a gorgeous light scent that's perfect for the spring/summertime. Notes include lotus flower, orange, grapefruit and sandalwood.

Versace Bright Crystal

If you're looking for something a bit stronger or simply want a "going out" perfume, look no further then Bright Crystal. Every time I wear it, it just makes me feel glamorous and rich yet doesn't give me a headache like other "night" scents do. Plus look at the bottle, it just screams luxury. The top note is pomegranate, middle notes are magnolia and lotus while the base note is mahogany.

Prada Infusion D'Iris

After two years of working at a perfume shop, I've finally found my signature scent. I literally wear this every single day and I'm still not sick of it which is surprising since I smell different fragrances every day. Every time I wear it I think of laying down on the grass on a spring day with the breeze in the air and smelling fresh laundry haha. If you're looking for a more in-dept review click here. Notes include mandarin, iris, lemon verbena, and sandalwood.

Sports Glamour

Hey guys! So finals for me are finally over and I'm sure everyone's feeling the same amount of relief that I'm feeling right now. I hope everyone did okay on them! Now on to the blog post...this outfit was actually photographed two weeks ago, back when school was still in session so it is another outfit that was meant to be worn for a college setting. As you can tell from the title of this post, I'm the Queen of cheesy titles but hey that's all I can think of when I was wearing this outfit! I'm sure I'll get better at this eventually.

I was inspired by the recent athletic theme oufits that have been showing up on the spring runways so I thought why not try something different? I went with an all-white outfit (obsessed with head to toe white!) and decided to make my red hat stand out the most. It's a fun outfit that's casual, not to mention comfortable enough to wear to school yet still remains girly.

The J.Crew shirt I scored for 40% off and then used the college student discount to get another 15% off so I was defiantly feeling happy about waiting until it went on sale. I'm sure there are still some left on the sales rack if you wanted to check it out!

As for the over-sized bag, it's perfect for college cause you can literally fit your textbooks inside of it! I'm not one for backpacks so this is defiantly a better alternative, not to mention stylish! It's also made of incredible quality and I'm sure will last me a long time since it's by Italian leather designer, Alberta Di Canio.

Style Star: Sarah Jessica Parker at the Met Gala 2014

Every year I anxiously wait to see what Sarah is wearing to the Met Gala and this year I certainly wasn't disappointed! She's never afraid to take fashion risks and always manages to look whimsical yet elegant. Although there were many amazing looks at the Met Gala, my top pick was her Oscar Del a Renta gown.
From the front it looked like a classic black and white gown and she accessorized with some long white gloves. It went perfectly with the ladylike theme that was going on the whole night, making this one of my favorite Met Gala's to the date.
Here's the exciting part: the back of the gown! The black and white stripes and the red logo on the bottom of the gown was pure perfection.
And can we just talk about how incredible her hair looks? I can't say enough about this look! I thought her hair piece from last year was incredible but this completely blew me away. I've been seeing flowers in the hair a lot on the spring runways lately but those looks seemed childish compared to the elegance in this hairstyle.

New Beginnings

Hey guys! Welcome to my first official outfit post! A huge thank you to Fatima, who is officially my fashion photographer and braved the cold wind yesterday just to take these pictures for me! I'm so excited to work with her more in the future!

Although I'm by no means an amazing fashionista like Aimee Song from Song of Style or even have the funds to wear gorgous expensive clothing, I do think it's possible to look stylish without breaking the bank. Sure I'm envious of all those bloggers and celebs who get to dress amazing every day but what college girl is able to afford all those things? Even if most of us were able to, where would we wear such nice outfits?

That's why I decided to cater my outfit posts to college girls who are looking to dress stylish but in a more realistic and affordable way. It's nice to actually be able to go out and buy something you've seen on the Internet at your local mall or hear about cheap deals from expensive websites.

Enough of my mini-rant, onto the post! Dressing for college can be tricky. You want to look casual enough so you don't look overdressed but at the time you want to look stylish and not be the kid wearing sweats to class.

Jacket: Bar III from Macy's
Top: Express
Jeans: Hollister Co.
Necklace, Flats: J. Crew
Bag: Guess
Nail Polish: Orly Oh Cabana Boy

My go to outfit is always a plain top, leather jacket, skinny jeans, and a bold accessory. I'm obsessed with leather jackets and I think it's a great piece that you can invest in cause it goes so well with many different outfits!

What's your go to oufit for school? Let me know in the comments below!

Nails of the Day: Royal Treatment

Hey guys! So here's what's been on my nails lately: Gelish's Diva with a Konad nail stamp that was used with a silver color from Loreal's Colour Riche nail polishes collection. I can't remember the exact name of it but any old silver nail polish will do for this look!

The pretty swirly print from the Konad stamp reminds me of something elegant and royal and although this would be the type of manicure to sport in the fall/winter, I think it's a nice change from spring pastels. I was never one for following fashion rules anyways, why limit yourself to wearing certain colors at certain times of year? If you like something then just go for it even if it something as little as nail polish :)
